suspension bridge in ireland
I wanted to visit Carrick-a-Ree, a suspension bridge, on my trip to Ireland.
It's a vast natural area with a spectacular view.
The sea is also very beautiful.
The number of people crossing this suspension bridge is strictly controlled,
so there is a line and you cross at the direction of the staff.
It's a shame that I didn't have time to take my time and take photos on the suspension bridge.
It's far from the capital, Dublin, so I went there using a local tour I booked from Japan.

Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge: A Must-Visit in Northern Ireland
✨ Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge: A Must-Visit in Northern Ireland
1. Thrilling Experience
Suspended 30 meters above the ground, this rope bridge was once a passage for fishermen and is now one of Northern Ireland's most exhilarating attractions. The bridge spans 20 meters and allows only one person to cross at a time. Beneath your feet are crashing waves against the cliffs, while the sea wind roars in your ears—every step is an adrenaline rush! On sunny days, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the blue sea, sky, and the Scottish coastline. On cloudy days, the bridge exudes a cinematic atmosphere.
2. Geological Wonders and Historical Fusion
The rope bridge connects the Irish mainland to Rocky Island, both formed 60 million years ago during volcanic activity, sharing origins with the Giant's Causeway. Nearby caves, once a haven for fishermen, now offer a chance to explore mysterious geological traces.
3. Photography Tips
- Outfit: Bright-colored jackets or flowing dresses to contrast with the deep blue sea.
- Angles: Capture a panoramic view of the bridge from the entrance, a candid shot while looking back on the bridge, or waves crashing against the cliffs from Rocky Island.
- Safety Note: The bridge has a limit of 8 people at a time; arrive early to avoid peak crowds.
🚗 Nearby Attractions: One-Day Itinerary Highlights
Recommended Route: Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge → Giant's Causeway → The Dark Hedges → Dunluce Castle
1. Giant's Causeway (15-minute drive)
- Must-See: 40,000 basalt columns forming a "natural staircase," said to be the footprints of a giant crossing the sea. Walk along the cliff trail to experience the wild Atlantic.

2. The Dark Hedges (20-minute drive)
- A must for Game of Thrones fans! The "King's Road" filming location features 300-year-old beech trees forming a magical tunnel.
- Best Time for Photos: Early morning mist or sunset, when light and shadows create stunning effects.
3. Dunluce Castle (10-minute drive)
- The pinnacle of ruin aesthetics: A medieval castle perched on cliffs, with its crumbling walls shaped by the waves, offering a dramatic view of the Scottish coastline.
⚠ Important Notes
- Opening Hours: Winter hours may be shortened (e.g., 10:00 AM–2:30 PM), and the bridge may close temporarily during strong winds or heavy rain.
- Safety: Not recommended for those with a fear of heights! Avoid running on the bridge and secure your belongings to prevent them from falling.
🍴 Nearby Food Recommendations

Whitepark Bay, Antrim, Northern Ireland

Whitepark Bay, Antrim, Northern Ireland
This expansive beach is perfect for a bracing walk and though it’s not suitable for swimmers, Whitepark Bay’s main attraction has little to do with the water. It’s home to a herd of possibly the most-photographed cows in Ireland. Used as a method of conservation for the dunes, the grazing cattle often wander down to the shore or a quick dip or a snooze on the sands, and if you turn up in the early morning you’re sure to catch sight of these beach-bound bovines.

Carrick-a-Rede
#getgoing2025Visiting Carrick-a-Rede was an exhilarating experience. The highlight, of course, was crossing the famous rope bridge, suspended nearly 30 meters above the crashing waves and jagged rocks below. Originally built by salmon fishermen over 350 years ago, the bridge connects the mainland to a small island with stunning views of the Antrim Coast. The walk to the bridge was equally scenic, with cliffs, wildflowers, and the sound of the ocean adding to the charm. Entry cost around £13 and was worth it for the thrill and natural beauty. A truly unique destination that combines history and adventure!

Visiting Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge in Ireland on a beautiful spring day was an unforgettable experience. The weather was perfect, with clear blue skies and a refreshing breeze carrying the scent of the sea. As we walked along the rugged coastal path, the stunning views of the turquoise Atlantic Ocean and dramatic cliffs took our breath away. The sense of accomplishment upon reaching the tiny island was rewarded with panoramic views of the coastline and distant Scottish isles on the horizon. The lush green landscape combined with the sparkling waters made the scene feel almost surreal. On such a perfect day, Carrick-a-Rede truly felt like a slice of paradise.

With its dramatic cliffs, rugged shoreline, & crystal-clear turquoise waters, Ballintoy Harbour offers a serene atmosphere.

Balintoy i
Balintoy is a picturesque small village. In the room on the second floor of the hotel, you can see the pastures and flocks across the street from the cracks in the house. The bar door of this hotel is also the gate of the ten "gates of power games", which is engraved with the dragon pattern of Tuglian.
Sometimes driving is not the best option. For example, going to Ballintoy Harbour, 1 mile away, it takes a lot of time to walk, but the scenery and beautiful details along the way. Ding will not miss it. Each farm land is surrounded by stone walls or low shrubs that are waist-high. Looking far away, groups of sheep are sprinkled on the green slopes like pearls.
The breeze in the morning, the scent of the grass in the air, walked through the quaint Balinto Parish Church, the narrow road began to hover down, at the end of the road is the port of Ballintoy.
In the eyes of the rights fans, the port of Ballintoy has become synonymous with the Iron Islands and Dragonstone. The sea near the narrow port is full of huge reefs. The wild scenery of the atmosphere is completely in line with the original setting of the atmosphere of the Iron Islands. The production team of the production company HBO has made meritorious deeds!
