A spot that you think you know but don't know✨ The view from the top of Sigiriya Rock is beautiful, but if you climb it because of a blind spot, you can't see Sigiriya Rock itself! But Pidurangala has a cheap entrance fee, and although it's a 30-minute walk on a rough path, the view is spectacular🥹✨It's a great spot if you want to see Sigiriya Rock from the outside! There were hardly any people there compared to Sigiriya! We wanted to see the sunset, so we went at sunset time! The two sites are just 20 km apart so it is possible to visit both attractions within the same day. However, I recommend spending at least a few days to explore these sites at a more leisurely pace. Check out the three-day itinerary below! Day 1: Arrive at Colombo International Airport Ratmalana. Rest for a night in Negombo. Day 2: Travel to Sigiriya. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple on the way to Sigiriya. The most convenient way to reach Sigiriya is by hiring a private car. The cheapest way is by taking local buses. We took 2 different local buses from Negombo and got off at Dambulla. It was fun albeit slightly inconvenient as we got to experience it the local way. From Dambulla you can either take a public bus or hire a tuk-tuk to Sigiriya. Day 3: Visit Sigiriya Lion Rock early in the morning. Hire a jeep ride to Minneriya National Park in the afternoon. [Must-Visit Attractions] 1. Sigiriya Lion Rock: An ancient fortress built on top of a rock column 2. Dambulla Cave Temple: The largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in the island 3. Minneriya National Park: Within an hour drive from Sigiriya, the park houses hundreds of Asian elephants which thrive on the Minneriya Tank. [Must-Try Food] There are plenty of roadside restaurants along Sigiriya Road and Hotel Road. Some of them offer a good view of the Sigiriya Lion Rock. 1. Hotel Sigiriya serves good buffet dinner. 2. Outdoor pool area of Hotel Sigiriya offers clear views of the Lion Rock. There is even a telescope by the pool for us to get a better view of the rock! 2. Dambulla Cave Temple: Before entering the temple we had to remove our shoes so wearing socks is recommended. Remember to wear modest clothing that covers your knee and shoulder while visiting sacred sites. There are lots of street sellers outside the temple selling sarong. It is also possible to rent a sarong to cover your knees before entering the temple. 2. Sigiriya is the MOST iconic and beautiful site in the country of Sri Lanka! It represents the intricacies of the Sinhalese history and it dated back to thousands of years ago! For travelers, getting there is fairly easy! Getting There - Take the bus from Kandy or Colombo to Dambulla. From Dambulla you could take a 20 minute tuktuk to Sigiriya or take a bus which would roughly take 45 minutes. Most accommodations are very close to Sigiriya and are at walkable distance! Attractions - Pirundagala is a good viewpoint rock while Sigiriya Archeological site allows you to be exploring the history on the rock! Hotels - Senehas Homestay was very hospitable and of good value! Food & Restaurants - make sure you try string hoppers in the area! The area is full of touristy restaurants with cuisine ranging from international, italian to local Sri Lankan delicacies!

We had a wonderful stay in Hotel Sigiriya during our visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, the most iconic landmark in Sri Lanka. The hotel is 2 km away from the entrance of Sigiriya Rock, which is also known as the Lion Rock. We were welcomed with amazing views of the Lion Rock the moment we set foot in the hotel. The rock could be seen clearly from the outdoor pool area and we could even see the visitors on the rock using the telescope provided! Our hotel room was clean and spacious. There were French doors leading to patio with sitting areas. Our stay included buffet dinner served in the open-aired restaurant in the hotel. The hotel was very accommodative to our request to provide takeaway breakfast as we needed to leave before breakfast time to climb the Lion Rock. Sri Lanka's Sky Palace was listed as a World Heritage Site as early as 1982. Looking from the bottom up, it feels very spectacular. After actually climbing to the top, I have to admire the uncanny workmanship designed by the people at that time. yeay!! im so close to this huge-mammoth-gigantic rock that i’ve been eyeing since i saw a video clip of Duran Duran. it’s just amazing to witness human imagination harmonizes with the nature (the rock was formed from magma of an extinct volcano & reaches 200m high. when King Kashyapa transfomed this rock into his palace, fortress, garden & ultimately his administrative capital during his reign (477 – 495 AD), it has becoming a magnificent legacy during his time i am still amazed when i picture themassive construction of the city on top of the rock. how do these people drag all the building materials to the top? it must be hard time and tiring. #sigiriya #lionrock #srilanka

As someone who lives in a bustling city, there's no better escape than to somewhere as full of nature as Sigiriya, Sri Lanka. Get up for the pre-sunrise motorbike ride through the hills to the peak and you’ll find yourself surrounded by the sounds of animals getting ready for the day. A quick jaunt up the adjacent mountain and you’ll find yourself with a front-row seat to one of the worlds hidden gems. Head back down and it’s an easy motorbike ride around town to find some relaxing shade. Then, it’s back up up to climb the Sigiriya peak and watch the sunset. Just watch out for those pesky monkeys as they like to steal your stuff. 10/10 would do again.

RASTA RANT was absolutely my favourite restaurant during my time in Sigiriya! I had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was fresh, full of flavor, and made with love. The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and the whole place had such a relaxed, happy atmosphere. They played Bob Marley songs all day, which gave it a super chill vibe, I loved it! It was the perfect spot to unwind after exploring the surroundings of Sigiriya. Great food, great people, and great music.
