[2024 Sibiu Stay] Travel Guide for Ramada by Wyndham Sibiu (Updated Dec)
The Liars' Bridge in Sibiu
👍️Recommended reason:
Sibiu is located in the southern part of Transylvania, Romania, spanning the Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt River, and is the capital of Sibiu County. The city is one of the most prosperous in Romania and has attracted the most foreign investment in the country. It has also been voted as 'one of the eight most suitable pastoral cities to live in Europe'.
In 1989, a revolution broke out in Romania, and Sibiu became the second city in the country to ignite the revolution.
✅Must experience:
1. Liars' Bridge: Next to Sibiu Square, there is a famous iron bridge called the 'Liars' Bridge', built in 1859, and it is the first iron bridge in Romania. Legend has it that if someone lies while standing on this bridge, it will collapse. The name originates from the fact that either merchants often quarrel on this bridge, or lovers make promises but break up immediately (everyone is lying). Standing on the Liars' Bridge, one can see the Council Tower and the small square.
2. Lutheran Cathedral of Saint Mary: The church is the most famous Gothic church in Sibiu, a traditional religious and political center in the Transylvania region of Romania, located in HUET Square. Its majestic spire, 73.34 meters high, is the tallest building in the city. The entirely wooden church allows visitors to climb to the top for a panoramic view of the old town and to listen to organ performances inside.
3. Brukenthal Museum: It is the oldest museum in Romania, opened in 1871, with a rich and diverse collection.
