Just came back from a night tour of the Qinhuai River and it's all big truths, take a look before you go
In this city that carries the splendor of the Six Dynasties, the Qinhuai River is like a stream of stories, gently winding around the heart of Nanjing, telling tales of a thousand years of glory and tenderness. As a travel explorer, I have had the fortune to set foot on this land where history and modernity intertwine multiple times, and each time, the Qinhuai River never fails to intoxicate me with its unique charm. Below is a carefully organized guide to touring the Qinhuai River, hoping to add an unforgettable touch to your trip to Nanjing.
Attraction Introduction: A Romantic Scroll of Dreaming Back to the Six Dynasties
Confucius Temple: The core of the Qinhuai scenery, not only with the solemn Confucius Temple but also with a bustling commercial street. When night falls and the lights come on, with boats shuttling back and forth, it is the best place to experience the classical charm of the Qinhuai River.
Laomendong: Adjacent to the Qinhuai River, it retains a large number of Ming and Qing buildings. Walking here is like traveling back to ancient times, where every bluestone slab and wooden door exudes the breath of history.
Zhonghua Gate Castle: As one of the most completely preserved ancient castles in the world, it has witnessed the rise and fall of Nanjing city. Climbing high and looking far, the beauty of the Qinhuai River is all in sight.
Itinerary Arrangement: A Slow Day Tour of Qinhuai
Morning: Start from the Confucius Temple, first visit the Confucius Temple to feel the profoundness of Confucian culture, then stroll to the Jiangnan Examination Hall to understand the details of the ancient imperial examination system. Next, seek out authentic snacks in the surrounding old streets and alleys, such as duck blood vermicelli soup, Jinling snacks, etc., to add a taste memory to the journey.
Afternoon: Head to Laomendong, browse the handicraft shops, and experience the charm of traditional crafts. You might choose a teahouse to taste a pot of Yuhua tea and enjoy a moment of tranquility.
Evening to Night: Take a Qinhuai River painting boat, as the boat gently sways, with the lights dim on both banks, listening to the ancient music played on the boat, as if you are in the midst of ancient poetry. Afterward, return to the Confucius Temple area, where the night market is bustling, continue to taste various Nanjing snacks, or purchase some characteristic souvenirs.
Food Recommendations: Nanjing on the Tip of the Tongue
• Salted Duck: Nanjing's signature dish, tender and delicious.
• Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup: A bowl of hot vermicelli soup is a warm choice for winter.
• Xiaolongbao: Thin-skinned and filled with rich broth, every bite is a delight.
• Red Bean Yuanxiao: Sweet but not greasy, soft and delicious, a perfect dessert after a meal.
Transportation Strategy:
• Arriving in Nanjing: Nanjing Lukou International Airport and Nanjing South Station are the main transportation hubs. From the airport or train station, you can take the subway, bus, or taxi directly to the Confucius Temple area.
• Internal Transportation: Attractions around the Qinhuai River are relatively concentrated and can be easily visited on foot. If you need to go to the slightly farther Zhonghua Gate Castle, it is recommended to use a shared bicycle or take a bus.
The Qinhuai River is not just a river; it is the soul of Nanjing, a witness to the interweaving of history and culture. Here, every brick and tile records the past, and every scene lets you feel the unique rhythm of this city. I hope my sharing can bring inspiration to your trip, and let us together pursue those lost historical lights and shadows in the shimmer of the Qinhuai River.

The Qinhuai river is known as the mother river of Nanjing. Both sides of the rivers have cultural heritage buildings 🏯 which is the hallmark of ancient China. Slow sailing boats 🛥 through the river is an added beauty. At night it's get more attractive with the lightings of both boats and buildings. 🌙✨

Nanjing after the snow is as beautiful as Jinling in a painting! ❄️ Nanjing is expected to see its first snow in December this year. When the time comes, remember to hold the hand of the person you like and go see this romantic first snow together! The following places are definitely worth a visit, and you can take great photos anywhere! 📸

Solo trip to Nanjing!!!
Depart from Guangdong! Solo trip to Nanjing 🍁 was so much fun! ||| Special note‼️: This is just my personal opinion and experience.
About food 🍽️
1️⃣ Jiming Soup Dumplings: Chrysanthemum leaves, signature pork, crab roe, duck blood vermicelli, red bean glutinous rice balls (highly recommended! Super delicious 🤤!)
2️⃣ Liu Changxing: Dumplings, dumplings, dumplings!! Big and juicy 🤤
3️⃣ Qijiawan Beef Potstickers: Delicious! I ordered takeout! The filling is sweet and juicy!
4️⃣ Shuiximen Wangji Duck: I ordered takeout for this too! I ate it for two days! Personally, I think the roast duck is better than the salted duck. The sweet and salty flavor goes perfectly with rice.
5️⃣ Shisan Tea: Rose dew, no sugar, normal ice, just right for me
6️⃣ Ma Wuwang: Super Mango (The staff here are really nice! The packaging design is also quite cultural, so I highly recommend it!)
7️⃣ Aunt Xu's Green Rice Balls: Not bad, not great. I bought it because it was on the way, just downstairs from the hotel. I think the Ai Ci in Guangdong is better. If you like sticky rice balls, you can try it.
About attractions 🌄 (Remember to make a reservation and book tickets in advance)
I visited: Presidential Palace, Three Must-Win, Confucius Temple, Qinhuai River, Xuanwu Lake, Zhongshan Scenic Area, Nanjing Museum
(Take the sightseeing bus if you can! There are a lot of people even on weekdays! The scenic area is large, so I don't recommend walking. Go to Confucius Temple and Qinhuai River at night to take photos!)
Accommodation 🏨: Youdu Shiyue (Perfect for solo travelers! All female guests, which is great!)
Complaints: I hate the traffic planning in Nanjing! The roads are narrow! Cars don't yield to pedestrians, and even when the light is green, electric scooters rush through the crosswalk... There are very few escalators in the subway! If you have heavy luggage, I suggest taking a taxi to and from the airport.
Summary: Nanjing is great, I'll come again!
AsherShadowblade71
I stayed at a super nice homestay near Xuanwu Lake.

Nanjing Confucius Temple | Night mooring on the Qinhuai River.
Smoke shrouds the cold water, the moon shrouds the sand, and the night mooring on the Qinhuai River is close to the tavern. Just for the poetry engraved in the genes, you have to come to the Qinhuai River, take a cruise ship and shuttle through the Qinhuai River, listen to the sound of oars swaying, and see the bright lights of Jinling on the riverbank.
✨Highlights:
1⃣Dongyuan Bridge
You can see the lanterns on the riverbank with the words "Night Mooring on the Qinhuai River," which is super artistic. It is suitable for shooting in the evening or after nightfall. After shooting, you can go to the opposite side of the bridge to shoot the two words "Nanjing" diagonally.
2⃣Pingjiang Bridge
After shooting Dongyuan Bridge, turn left to Pingjiang Bridge, and you will see the two words "Nanjing" directly opposite. There are many girls taking Hanfu photos under the bridge. After the Qinhuai River lights up at night, it is also very photogenic with the cruise ships coming and going.
3⃣Ancient Qinhuai Archway
Go straight ahead to the archway of Ancient Qinhuai, which is also the entrance to the Confucius Temple Pedestrian Street. Of course, you have to take a photo to commemorate it.
4⃣Nanjing Red Wall Check-in Point
A free photo check-in point in the Qinhuai Theater, with the big word "Nanjing" on the red wall, is very suitable for taking photos. Take a few more steps forward, and the lantern decoration on another door is also very suitable for taking photos.
5⃣Wende Bridge
Walk straight along the pedestrian street, pass by the Jiangnan Examination Hall, and turn left after seeing the Moon Terrace, and you will reach Wende Bridge. The most classic check-in spot on the Qinhuai River is here. If you want to take a boat trip, you can also buy tickets here.
The Qinhuai River is divided into two rivers, inner and outer. The inner Qinhuai is in the Confucius Temple Scenic Area and is divided into two routes, east and west:
The east line cruise ship boards at the Pan Pond Wharf under the Tianxia Wenshu Archway of the Confucius Temple, passing through Taoye Ferry ➡ Bailuzhou Park ➡ Water Street ➡ Dongshuiguan ➡ Zhonghua Gate, and finally returning to Pan Pond Wharf.
The west line night tour starts at 18:00, also boarding at Pan Pond Wharf, passing through Zhonghua Gate ➡ Ancient Theater ➡ Xianhe Bridge ➡ Xishuiguan, and returning to Pan Pond Wharf.

Spend a night in Qinhuai, embark on a poetic journey through a thousand years.
🎋In Nanjing, there is a river that acts as a bond, connecting the prosperity and poetry of ancient and modern times. It is the Qinhuai River, a river flowing with a thousand years of stories and legends. Today, let's embark on this journey together and experience a night in Qinhuai as described in ancient poems.
🌈 Starting point: Confucius Temple
Our journey begins at the Confucius Temple, the source of the Qinhuai River. Stepping into the Confucius Temple is like stepping into the fragrance of books in ancient times.📜No tickets are required, but you can feel the heavy historical atmosphere.
🚣♂️ Route exploration
Our route starts at the Dongshuiguan Ruins Park and continues along the Qinhuai River. First, we arrive at the Wu Jingzi Memorial Hall, a building built by the water that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time. Next is the ancient Taoye Ferry and Dongyuan Bridge, not only a great spot for taking photos of "Night in Qinhuai near the tavern", but also a good place to experience the ancient prosperity.
📸 Best photo spots
1. Dongyuan Bridge: Standing on the bridge, you can overlook the entire Qinhuai River at night, with lights flickering like a fairyland.
2. Wenyuan Bridge: Adjacent to Dongyuan Bridge, it is also a great place to take photos.
3. Wende Bridge: The TV screen often shows the Qinhuai River filmed here, and the night view is even more breathtaking.
4. Second floor bar near Deyue Tower: Here you can overlook the Qinhuai River at night, while enjoying a glass of wine and experiencing the Qinhuai style at night.
🎨 Introduction to attractions
In addition to the places mentioned above, the Examination Museum and Jiangnan Gongyuan are also worth visiting. The Examination Museum showcases the charm of the ancient imperial examination system, while Jiangnan Gongyuan bears witness to the struggles of countless scholars. However, it is important to note that Jiangnan Gongyuan is not worth paying to visit, as the exterior architecture and walls are enough to give you a sense of history.
💡 Tips for playing
1. It is recommended to arrive at Dongshuiguan City Wall around 5 pm to avoid the embarrassment of the scenic area being closed and unable to enter.
2. Wenyuan Bridge is just opposite Dongyuan Bridge, don't run off course!
3. Jiangnan Gongyuan and other attractions do not require payment to enter, the scenery outside is enough.
4. Tickets for Qinhuai River cruise can be purchased near Wende Bridge, although the price is not cheap, it is worth a try. You can enjoy the beautiful night view of the Qinhuai River on the cruise.
5. Be cautious when buying snacks and souvenirs at the Confucius Temple, many are tourist traps. It is best to buy from a reputable store.
🌈On the journey of spending a night in Qinhuai, we not only experience the prosperity and poetry of ancient times, but also appreciate the unique charm of Nanjing. This route is scenic, less crowded, and only known to locals. I hope you can leave beautiful memories and photos here!📸✨

Nanjing, a summer night dream by the Qinhuai River.
📍Nanjing, a city with a rich history and culture, always has a charm that attracts you and me to explore. When night falls, the evening breeze on the Qinhuai River gently blows, as if telling a thousand-year-old story. By Xuanwu Lake, the moonlight is sprinkled, the lake is sparkling, and it is refreshing.
🎆Entering the Presidential Palace, every brick reveals the vicissitudes and heaviness of history. On the plane tree avenue, the dense leaves sway gently in the night wind, bringing a touch of coolness and tranquility to pedestrians.
🌇The summer in Jinling has both the passion of the sun and the tenderness of the night. Here, you can feel the blend of history and modernity, and the harmonious coexistence of nature and humanities. Nanjing is not just a city, but a romantic encounter with history, culture, and life.
🍡Come to Nanjing, blow the evening breeze of the Qinhuai River, walk around Xuanwu Lake, visit the Presidential Palace, stroll around the plane tree avenue, and feel the summer of Jinling!

Impressions of Summer in Nanjing
Nanjing in summer is truly hot, living up to its reputation as one of the 'furnaces' of China. Perhaps it is precisely because of the scorching sun that there is a sky full of vibrant and ever-changing colors, and a passionate crowd of tourists, giving the ancient capital of Nanjing a modern vibe! There are many attractions within Nanjing, ranging from natural landscapes to cultural relics, each step revealing a different scene that tells the story of Nanjing!
Nanjing Station, facing Xuanwu Lake and backed by Xiaohong Mountain, is the only train station in China that is both lakeside and mountain-adjacent, and is known as 'China's most beautiful train station'. It was first built in the 31st year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1905), originally located in the Xiaguan area of Nanjing; it was moved to its current location in September 1968. The station building adopts a mast stay cable suspension structure, with 18 masts supporting the transverse steel beams, resembling a giant sailboat with masts erected and sails full, moored on the shore of Xuanwu Lake. The large area, wide-span stay cable lightweight steel roof system, modern hanging structure technology, transparent point-supported glass curtain wall, automatic fire-fighting water cannons, and long-distance air supply with large temperature difference design layered air conditioning system all reflect the combination of modern technology and new architecture, with both Jiangnan cultural characteristics and a modern atmosphere.
The Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenic Belt is located in Qinhuai District, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, with the Confucius Temple as the core, the Ten-Mile Qinhuai as the axis, and the Ming City Wall as the link, connecting numerous national key cultural relics protection units, provincial and municipal cultural relics protection units. It embodies Confucian thought and imperial examination culture, folk culture, etc., integrating tourism, gourmet shopping, science education, and festival culture, making it a gathering place for Nanjing's historical and cultural heritage, as well as a famous open national 5A-level tourist attraction in China.
The Qinhuai River is the cradle of Nanjing's ancient civilization, the mother river of Nanjing, and historically very famous. It has been known as the 'district of smoke and moon of the Six Dynasties, and the gathering place of gold and powder', as well as the prosperous place of ten dynasties, 'clothing and cultural relics, most prosperous in Jiangnan; literary talent and elegance, top in the country', and is called 'China's number one historical and cultural famous river'.
The Confucius Temple is one of the four major Confucian temples in China, a hub of ancient Jiangnan culture and a gathering place of historical and cultural figures in Jinling. It was not only the cultural and educational center of Nanjing during the Ming and Qing dynasties but also the crown of cultural and educational architectural complexes in the southeastern provinces, and it is the largest traditional ancient market in China.
The snacks of the Confucius Temple are ranked first among the four major snacks in China. The Confucius Temple Lantern Festival, held annually from the Spring Festival to the Lantern Festival, is on the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists and is also the most famous lantern festival in China, attracting countless friends to enjoy the lanterns and celebrate the festival together, with a strong local character and cultural atmosphere.
Xuanwu Lake, also known as Hou Lake or North Lake, is bordered by Zijin Mountain to the east, the Ming City Wall to the west, Nanjing Station to the north, and Fuzhou Mountain to the south. It is a shallow lake and part of the ancient Qinhuai River channel left by the Yangtze River. Xuanwu Lake is the 'heart' of Nanjing's urban water system, belonging to the Jinchuan River system, with the lake water mainly supplied by rainwater from the northern foothills of Zhongshan (Zijin Mountain). Xuanwu Lake is connected to the Yangtze River through the Jinchuan River, Pearl River, and Qinhuai River, carrying out comprehensive functions such as urban flood control and drainage, ecological landscape, public leisure, sightseeing tourism, and ecological water replenishment for urban rivers. Xuanwu Lake is one of the three famous lakes in Jiangnan, and the area around the ancient Xuanwu Lake was the most suitable space for human habitation in Nanjing at that time, with ancient cultural sites such as Beiyinyangying, Suojin Village, and Anhuai Village. Xuanwu Lake was also the royal garden lake of the Six Dynasties and the training ground for the navy, and during the Ming Dynasty, it was the location of the national archive where the Yellow Register was kept. Therefore, Xuanwu Lake has the reputation of being the largest urban park in the Jiangnan region, the largest royal garden lake in China, the only remaining royal garden in Jiangnan, and is known as the 'Pearl of Jinling'.
The Stone City Gate (also known as the Dry West Gate or Han West Gate), opened during the Ming Dynasty, is located not far south of the Hanzhong Gate. After the Hanzhong Gate was demolished, the place name continued to be used. The Stone City Gate is a place name that no longer exists, but the city gate is still there. Because Hanzhong Gate and Stone City Gate are very close to each other, most people confuse the two, even thinking they are the same gate. Hanzhong Gate is a city gate opened during the Republic of China, while Stone City Gate (also known as Dry West Gate or Han West Gate) is one of the thirteen city gates of Ming Nanjing. The Stone City Gate was originally built during the Southern Tang Dynasty and is the oldest existing city gate in Nanjing. The area has a strong historical and cultural atmosphere and is a microcosm of the rich cultural accumulation of the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, Nanjing. The former Hanzhong Gate itself was in decline and its former grandeur as a fortress was hard to see.

Nanjing Travel
Extreme Check-in Day One
Arrived at Nanjing South Station at 3:18 PM
Rushed to the museum right after getting off the train! Finished touring before it closed!
Inside the museum, the square was filled with stones and pebbles. Every design inside and outside the museum has its own meaning. Only when you come to this place can you feel the sorrow and the urge to cry from the bottom of your heart! As you walk through the corridor of thick black marble slabs, there is a place on the right where a fire burns continuously. Offer a white chrysanthemum there and tell them: Everything is fine now!
Visited the museum, went to the Confucius Temple, drank Tea Yanyue Se, ate the 88 yuan crab roe noodles (avoid it, don't eat it), ordered roast duck for delivery, visited Laomendong, and saw the Qinhuai River.
Finally, here's a picture. To lighten the load, all my clothes are disposable, including the shoes!
