It is the homeland of the Ba people, the cradle of the Tujia ethnic group, and the hometown of the Changyang people. It is uniquely known as 'the eight hundred li of Qingjiang River are as picturesque as a painting, with three hundred li of the gallery in Changyang', hence the name Qingjiang Gallery.
