Qingguo Lane is about 1 km long, stretching from Heping North Road in the east to the bustling Malu South Street in the west and the moat in the south. The slightly dilapidated old houses in the lane are in sharp contrast to the surrounding high-rise buildings. There are still a few residents living in the old houses. Although it does not have a glamorous appearance, it still retains some of the people's livelihood. Qingguo Lane was first built before the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty (1581 AD). At that time, the canal entered the West Water Gate from Wenheng Bridge, passed through the East and West Xiatang, and then went out of the East Water Gate and meandered eastwards through the city. Qingguo Lane faces the canal section of the city, where many ships gather. It is a distribution center for fruits from the north and south. There are fruit shops selling equipment along the coast, and it was formerly known as the "Thousand Fruit Lane". In Qingguo Lane, there is Bagui Hall, located at No. 82 Qingguo Lane. It was built by Changzhou celebrity Tang Jingchuan after he won the imperial examination. To commemorate his success, he planted eight osmanthus trees in his house, which was named "Bagui Hall". Many celebrities came from Qingguo Lane, including the Qing Dynasty industrialist Zhuang Kai, the top scholar and painter Qian Weicheng and his brother Qian Weiqiao, and the general manager of Pingxiang Coal Mine and Hanyang Iron Works in the Qing Dynasty Zhang Zanchen. You can find the former residences of celebrities by walking around the lane.
