Snowy scenery in southern Taiwan: Exploration diary of Chigu Salt Mountain
If you ask me where the "white hill" in Tainan is, I will say without hesitation: Qigu Salt Mountain.
This is not a snow mountain, nor a white sand dune, but a mountain made of local salt in Taiwan.
The first time I came here, I saw the snow-white hill towering above the plain from a distance, like a magical scene in a fairy tale.
Standing at the foot of the mountain and looking up, I felt not only the magnificence, but also a kind of "this is the taste of our land".
🧂 The past and present of Qigu Salt Mountain
Qigu used to be an important town in Taiwan's salt industry, especially during the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese colonial period to the mid-Republic of China, it was an important place for the production of sun-dried sea salt.
Qigu Salt Mountain was originally a salt pile built to store and preserve salt. Later, with the decline of the salt industry, it was transformed into a tourist attraction.
Today, it is not only one of the landmarks of southern Taiwan, but also a successful example of cultural transformation.
"Salt replenishment" is carried out regularly every year to allow this "Salt Mountain" to maintain its spectacular appearance and pure white vision.
Standing on the mountain and looking down, the vast flat salt pan landscape, the distant coastline, and the flying water birds all make people feel like they have walked into a landscape painting of southern Taiwan.
📸 Must-take photos and fun attractions
⛰ Salt Mountain Summit Experience: You can hike to the top. Although it is small, it is easy to shoot from an angle. It is recommended to wear sunglasses to avoid the glare of the sun
🧂 Salt Sculpture Exhibition Area: Permanently exhibit art sculptures made of salt, with super dreamy light and shadow effects
🧒 Parent-child Salt Park: There are small sand pits and interactive teaching aids for salt, so children can learn while playing
🛍 Souvenir Area: Selling salt popsicles, salt-curd bean curd, salt-baked eggs and various special salt products (I highly recommend salt cream biscuits)
☀️ Best time to take photos: The light is soft in the morning, and the salt mountain will shine with a silvery white luster when the sun shines on it in the afternoon; in the evening, you can take pictures of the beautiful sunset dyed with salt

💭 A salt mountain records a salty history and is filled with strong local emotions.
This is not a vast and spectacular mountain range, but it has its own meaning of existence.
In the past, salt workers worked hard to dry salt under the scorching sun, and now it has become a scene in the hearts of travelers.
Qigu Salt Mountain is a place where you can take pictures with a smile, watch the sunset quietly, and look back on the past.
Every grain of salt here has been exposed to the most real sun in Tainan
