Changbai Korean Autonomous County Guide
Changbai Korean Autonomous County is affiliated with Baishan City, Jilin Province, and is the only Korean autonomous county in the country, known as 'the first county under Mount Changbai and the first city at the source of the Yalu River.' Located on the southern foot of Mount Changbai and the right bank of the upper reaches of the Yalu River, it is situated in mid-latitudes with a relatively high terrain, belonging to a temperate continental monsoon climate, with cold winters and warm summers, and distinct seasons.
The county was part of the 'Liaodong Outer Pass' during the Qin Dynasty. It belonged to Canghai County at the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty, and later to Lelang County. From the Eastern Han Dynasty to the early Tang Dynasty, it was part of Goguryeo, and later the West Capital Yalu Prefecture Fengzhou of the Bohai Kingdom. Subsequently, it was renamed Changbai Department, Jurchen Changbai Mountain Department, Changbai Prefecture through the dynasties. After the founding of New China, it was successively Changbai County and Changbai Korean Autonomous County.
Changbai Korean Autonomous County is the largest Korean settlement area outside Yanbian Prefecture, and is a place where Tang Bohai culture, Mount Changbai culture, Yalu River culture, Guandong culture, and Korean culture converge. The daily life, clothing, dietary habits, and customs and etiquette of Changbai Korean Autonomous County all have the unique cultural characteristics of the Changbai Korean ethnicity.
