The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is located in the northern part of the Temple of Heaven Park in Beijing. It is also called the Altar of Prayer for Good Harvests. It is the place where the grand ceremony of praying for good harvests in the first month of spring is held. It was built in the 18th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1420) and is the earliest building in the Temple of Heaven. It was destroyed by thunder and fire in the 15th year of Guangxu (1889). The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests we see now was later restored in its original form. The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests can be said to be the iconic building of the Temple of Heaven. As long as you see it, you will think of the Temple of Heaven and Beijing. The altar of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is a circular building combining the altar and the hall. It was built according to the ancient saying of "offering sacrifices to the emperor under the house". The lower part of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is the altar, which is three-story and 5.6 meters high; the hall is circular, with a diameter of 32.7 meters and a height of 38 meters. It has a three-story pointed roof and is covered with gilded blue tiles. The whole building is beautiful, magnificent and majestic. There are 28 golden nanmu pillars in the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The pillars are arranged in a circle. The four pillars in the inner circle represent the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter. The 12 pillars in the middle circle represent the 12 months. The 12 pillars in the outer circle represent the 12 hours and the constellations in the sky. The beams and rafters in the hall are painted with dragons, phoenixes and imperial seals. In addition to the main building, the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests altar, there are also the Huangqian Hall, the East and West Side Halls, the Prayer Gate, the Kitchen, the Slaughtering Pavilion, the Long Corridor, etc. There is a Seven-Star Stone on the square south of the Long Corridor, which was placed during the Jiajing period.
