I just got back from Perhentian Island, and my 3-day, 2-night experience was amazing! 😭 The island is small but full of natural charm, with wildlife everywhere—squirrels 🐿️, monkeys 🐒, lizards 🦎... Plus, prices are super low, and accommodation, food, and entertainment are all great! It's a beautiful place with few people, mostly Western tourists, where you can truly connect with nature! 🌳 🚗 Here's a travel guide! 1️⃣ From Kuala Lumpur, fly directly to Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu, which takes only 1 hour! ✈️ There's also a closer airport—Kota Bharu Airport, but we wanted to drive along the coast, so we chose Kuala Terengganu. A self-driving guide will be available later, so stay tuned! 🚗 2️⃣ After landing, take a Grab to Kuala Besut Jetty, which takes about 1.5 hours! 🚕 3️⃣ Buy a ticket at the jetty and take a boat to Perhentian Island. No need to book in advance! Someone will sell you a ticket at the jetty, and it's MYR 35 per person for a one-way trip, so don't get ripped off! Remember to buy a return ticket too! 🛳️ 🏨 Accommodation recommendation! The best hotel on the island—PIR! Right by the most beautiful beach! 🏖️ When I booked, it was about MYR 600 per room per night, and the rooms by the sea are amazing, with the ocean right outside the door! If you want to stay there, book early, or it'll be sold out! 😮 The hotel also offers cash exchange with a good rate! 💰 🍽️ Food recommendation! The restaurant at the Coral View Resort next door is cheap and delicious! 😋 It may not look like much, but the taste is amazing! I went to Perhentian Island and stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. The experience is really great🥹! ! ! The island is not very big and has not been over-exploited. You can see small animals everywhere, such as squirrels, monkeys, lizards... The prices are low, the accommodation is good, and the experience of eating, drinking and having fun is very good. Compared with other islands, Perhentian Island has fewer people and more European and American people, so it can have better contact with nature. 🗺️Route: 1) Depart from Kuala Lumpur and fly to Kuala Terengganu (Sultanahmet International Airport), which takes about 1 hour. You can go to another closer airport (Kota Bahru Airport). Because we wanted to drive along the coastline of Terengganu, we chose Kuala Terengganu. If necessary, I will write a separate note for the self-driving strategy. 2) After leaving the airport, take a Grab taxi directly to the pier (kuala besut jetty), and you will arrive at the pier in an hour and a half. 3) Take a boat from the pier to Perhentian island besar. There is no need to buy tickets in advance. When you arrive at the pier, someone will stop you and sell tickets. It is 35 MYR/person one way, so don’t buy it expensively. Remember to buy your return ticket as well. 🏠Accommodation: PIR, said to be the best hotel on the island. In front of the hotel is the most beautiful beach on the island! When I booked, it cost about 600 per room/night! You can choose a room near the seaside, and you can see the sea when you open the door. Everyone must book a hotel early, otherwise there will be no room! ⚠️The hotel can also exchange cash, and the exchange rate will be a little higher. 🍴Eating: It is recommended to eat at the hotel next door (coral view). You can found a turtle , a baby playful baby shark in Pulau Perhentian. The coral was beautiful , can play with the fish near the beach . The snorkeling was fun . You can come to Pulau Perhentian starting March - October . You can choose Pulau Perhentian Kecil or Pulau Perhentian Besar . If you came with small family, you can came to Pulau Perhentian Besar , but Pulau Perhentian Kecil have most attraction , more to single n couple.

Pulau Perhentian consists of 2 main islands which are located about 25km away from the town of Kuala Besut. The smaller island is known as Perhentian Kecil and bigger one is called Perhentian Besar. If you are not familiar with Bahasa Malaysia, "Kecil" means small and "Besar" means big. Unlike the bigger and more developed islands of Pangkor or Langkawi , these 2 islands are still seeing a slower pace of development where there are no roads or airport facilities. Accessibility to the islands and getting from one part of the island to another is by ferry or boat. Electricity is generated by using the local generators located on the island itself. There isn't any 5 Star Resort accommodation on these two islands.

I had the most memorable trip to Pulau Perhentian Besar especially with my girlfriends and their family. We took the plane until Kelantan and made our way to Terengganu and hop onto the boat until we reach the jetty. There are big trees, hanging hammocks and beach seat for us to lazing around. We spent most of the time swimming and hanging out at the cafe. Food was not that great but it was sufficient to fulfill our hunger and thirst. There were lots of activities such as island hopping and I also took a dive at one of the beautiful spot in Perhentian. Saw nice fishes and other sea living.
