#melbournetrip We rode this train as part of a tour and was on the train for 30 minutes. We started at Belgrave Station and ended at Menzies Creek. If you have kids this will be really fun and you can sit on the sides and dangle your feet off the side of the train. Adults and older kids are allowed to sit on the sills, so you can have your feet dangling out as the train rides thru the forest, which is really what the ride is all about, a must do! It takes you through some beautiful scenery to explore. It was a wonderful experience on this old heritage train.

Awesome steam train experience for the kids as they can get to put their legs out and enjoy the breeze as the train is quite slow moving. its quite safe for the kids but adult supervision is encourgaed. Easy to book the tickets online and checking in is a breeze too. Along the way we saw alot of natural sceneries and its a nice ride to lakeside station. all in, its a worthwhile experience.

We were here with our kids and they love the experience of riding on a steam train. Please take into account that a return trip (from Belgrave to Lakeside) will take around 3 hour. So you can spend the whole day here. If the weather allows, you can try to explore Lakeside or have a picnic over there. Bring along an umbrella as weather can be unpredictable. Please cater ample time to find car park if you drive here. When we were here, it took us a while to get to the car park near the train station as most of nearby car park lots are taken up. We barely reach 1 minute before the train departs but the staff was kind enough to let us board the train. Very friendly and helpful staff!

We booked our tickets online and easy to redeem at their counter. The journey we had was Belgrave to Lakeside. It is advisable to reach there 60 minutes before departure, so you will have plenty of time to look for parking and to queue for redemption physical tickets. Alternatively, it is accessible via train from Southern Cross Station, Melbourne, instead of driving. Sit back and enjoy the authentic heritage steam train experience. It take about an hour to reach Lakeside Station, stop few stations along the way. You could see fairytale scene, those we thought that we only could see in movies. Once you reached Lakeside Station, there is a restaurant for you to have lunch. After lunch, you can take a walk at Emerald Lake Park, it was a good weather during Spring, so windy and sunny! This is one of my recommendations for people travelling to Melbourne! Experience riding on a old, retro train while taking in such beautiful sights. Puffing Billy Railway is a 2 feet 6 in narrow gauge heritage railway in the southern foothills of Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne. The entire train ride experience is estimated about 45 minutes, and I would recommend coming during Spring / Autumn weather where there’s sun, but also windy. You can drive to Puffing Billy from Melbourne, which will take you about 1 hour. You can also take public transport which will take up to 1 hour 20 minutes. Choo...Choo...All aboard! A nice way to see the "country side" of Melbourne. The views are truly breath-taking! We enjoyed the sound of the real steam engine. The whole journey is just magical! So many great photo opportunity. My little boy also wants to hop in Thomas, but our schedule never allows it. 🌴 Puffing Billy is a fun ride for kids and adults 🚗 Take train until Belgrave Station to get onto the Puffing Billy Train. Ride until Lake Station. 📷 At the end of the station you may take photo with the front of the train, At times they refuel at the Lakeside station. it’s nice to see the refuel process! 🎫 Pre Book the tickets upfront to avoid disappointment. During peak times tickets sold out pretty fast. Buying tickets 1 or 2 months in advance is ideal! Booked mine at Trip.com and redeemed at the counter.

Last May, I went a week-long trip to Melbourne. It was a simple getaway, a relaxing holiday to explore new things and enjoy a different city. Here are my favourite experiences! 1️⃣ National Gallery of Victoria 🖼️ The NGV is a massive art gallery that is free entry to all. There is the main building (opposite the Royal Botanic Gardens) as well as the Ian Potter Centre (Federation Square). The former houses international art while the latter houses Aboriginal Australian art. Though I was not an art buff myself, the works were really interesting and visually appealing. Made two trips here! 2️⃣ Royal Exhibition Building 🎪 This building is of historical significance not only because of its connection to Melbourne’s World Expo in 1880, but also because it is the only surviving building from that era of world expos. Go for the guided tour, it was very engaging. My friend studying at the University of Melbourne actually told me they use that hall for their exams! Must feel really small! 3️⃣ Rippon Lea Estate ⛲️ Located in the southern suburbs of Melbourne stands a colonial-era mansion and garden. The guide was a really good, showing us around this relic of a gilded age. There are many interesting historical artefacts inside from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The gardens outside is really pretty, especially the artificial lake. 4️⃣ Puffing Billy Railway 🚂 Also in the outskirts of Melbourne, I took the Puffing Billy Railway from Belgrave to Menzies Creek. The railway is powered by steam locomotives and is well-preserved. The views were incredible especially when crossing the trestle bridge. Even spotted a wallaby! Best part is that you sit on the window ledge with your legs dangling out! 5️⃣ Melbourne’s infrastructure Melbourne is a really well-planned city with great infrastructure. The public transport centres around the tram system, which is free in the inner city. (Though I have noticed that even outside of the free zone, locals simply do not tap their cards, and no one bats an eye) In the city centre, there is even free wifi on the streets! Finally, fly to Brisbane, visit South Bank Parklands, Kangaroo Point, and Story Bridge, then head to Paradise Country on the Gold Coast to take a photo with a koala, and enjoy a helicopter tour of the coast and the fun of Surfers Paradise. D7-D9: Enjoy a full day of free time on the Gold Coast, then fly to Sydney, visit the Opera House, and enjoy a romantic dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour. The next day, continue to enjoy free time in Sydney and experience the charm of the city. D10: Head to Blue Mountains National Park, visit the World Heritage Site, take a cable car tour, and enjoy the beauty of nature.
