Indeed Portland Lighthouse stands on the very edge of the peninsula, jutting out towards France and the Atlantic Ocean. It has a majestic sweeping view out to sea. From here you could sail to the Americas without seeing another dot of land. The visitors centre is well worth checking out. The visitors centre contains a small museum, and for extra money visitors can ascend the tower itself. There is also a lovely gift shop.
