The port of Hamburg, Hamburger Hafen, which covers 100 square kilometers of tidal port, is known as the gateway to Germany. The largest of its three concert halls is 2,150 and is set with 10,000 plates specially designed for tuning sound waves. The building is also home to a large hotel, residential apartments, restaurants, and other features, including parking. A publicly accessible plaza on level eight provides excellent views of the harbor and city. The adjacent Traditionsschiffhafen/Sandtorhafen Harbor lines the peninsula and is a great place to view the antique tall ships at their docks. A good way to explore Hamburg Harbor is by boat, with many tours departing from Landungsbrücken.
