Time Travel: Exploring Ancient Rome in Pompeii
To visit Pompeii, you typically pass through Naples, Italy. The most common way to get to Pompeii from Napoli Centrale is by train. The train ride from Naples to Pompeii on the Circumvesuviana line takes about 30 minutes. After getting off at the 'Pompei Scavi - Villa dei Misteri' station, you can walk to the entrance of the Pompeii ruins. This route is convenient for travelers using public transportation and is a popular choice.
Pompeii is an ancient Roman city that was buried under volcanic ash in 79 AD due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The site preserves the lifestyle of that era, making it a unique place to experience ancient civilization. The well-preserved buildings, frescoes, and everyday items at the site offer a glimpse into the lives of the Romans.
When I visited Pompeii, the most impressive sights were the 'Forum' and the 'Amphitheater.' In these places, it felt as if time had stood still, allowing me to feel the grandeur and everyday life of ancient Rome simultaneously. Walking through Pompeii provided a unique experience where the past and present intersect, giving me a new perspective on history. Pompeii remains a special place, not just as a tourist destination but as a site where you can explore a page of history firsthand.

The famous Pompeii 🏛️
#localfinds
Visiting Pompeii Archaeological Park was like stepping back in time. Located just a short train ride from Naples, the entrance fee was around €16, and it was worth every cent. The ruins of this ancient Roman city, preserved by volcanic ash, are simply awe-inspiring. Walking through the streets where people lived 2,000 years ago was surreal! You could still see frescoes on the walls, mosaics on the floors, and even remnants of daily life like shops and houses.
The highlight for me was the Forum and the view of Mount Vesuvius in the background. It’s crazy to imagine how life was here before the eruption. The Amphitheatre was another incredible spot—standing there, I could almost hear the crowds. Plan for at least 3-4 hours to explore; it’s massive, and there’s so much to take in.
Nearby, you can also visit the ruins of Herculaneum, or make a day trip out of climbing Mount Vesuvius itself, which is only about 30 minutes away by car. Pompeii is definitely a must-see if you’re in the area!

Just visited Pompeii, and it was absolutely surreal! 🏛️ Walking through this ancient city, you get a real sense of what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. The entrance fee was €18, and I highly recommend getting a guide or an audio tour because there’s so much history to take in. One of the most striking things was seeing the plaster casts of the victims—it’s a chilling reminder of the power of Mount Vesuvius. 🌋
The city is massive, so wear comfortable shoes! I spent hours exploring the ruins, from the Forum and the temples to the amphitheater and the remarkably preserved frescoes in the villas. 🏺 The colors and details in the House of the Faun and Villa of the Mysteries were stunning. If you have time, the nearby Naples Archaeological Museum houses many artifacts from Pompeii and is definitely worth a visit.
It's incredible how well-preserved everything is, and it's easy to lose track of time imagining what daily life was like here. Definitely a must-see if you’re into history! #trip #Pompeii #Italy #AncientHistory #TravelBackInTime #Archaeology

Pompeii Ruins 🇮🇹
#timetotravel
My journey through Pompeii Archaeological Park was an immersive step into the past. Located near Naples, this ancient city buried by Mount Vesuvius' eruption was a captivating window into daily life in Roman times. As I wandered the cobbled streets, the remarkably preserved houses, temples, and amphitheater evoked a sense of awe and melancholy. The casts of human figures frozen in time were haunting yet poignant. The park's expansive layout and its accessible visiting hours allowed me to explore its wonders at my own pace. Pompeii Archaeological Park wasn't just a ruin; it was a living history lesson that transported me to a world long gone, while reminding me of the impermanence of life.

Pompeii, a city abandoned by volcanoes
Pompeii was a luxurious Roman resort city 2,000 years ago. It was a wealthy and luxurious city with many facilities such as theaters, baths, shops, a water pipe system, and even a giant amphitheater for sports competitions.
However, the city collapsed when Mount Vesus erupted, killing almost all the people in the city. Most of the people who died were those who thought it was safe to hide in their homes, until the lava was several meters thick and the houses collapsed.
The prosperity of Pompeii can still be seen from the houses and mansions, some of which are still in good condition, with paintings along the walls. Some houses even have fountains in the middle of the houses.
Currently, Pompeii has been excavated and well-preserved. Many tourists visit each year.

Walking in the suggestive rests of Pompeii
Pompeii is an ancient roman city, which in 79 A.C. was buried by the lava erupted from the Vesuvius Volcano.
I think Pompeii is a must see site when in Naples. it’s really suggestive how well preserved it is. once inside the side you can really feel the life that was once there.
Getting There - it’s quite easy from Naples. just get the Circumvesuviana train line to Pompei, it’s 5-10 minutes walk to the entrance. from Naples you can find as well many buses or organized tours.
Attractions - the whole archeological site.
Hotels - I suggest to spend the night in Naples and just visit Pompei as daily trip.
Food & Restaurants - many restaurants close by. you could as well prepare something to bring inside the park. you can find some picnic areas where you can peacefully eat and enjoy your time in the park.
In Campania region I always suggest PIZZAAA🍕 or seafood. they also have many good fried stuff and desserts. try limoncello too 🍋 the most famous ones are from Capri island.

city of Pompei - Ancient Rome
The city of Pompeii is famous because it was destroyed in 79 CE when a nearby volcano, Mount Vesuvius, erupted, covering it in at least 19 feet (6 metres) of ash and other volcanic debris. The city's quick burial preserved it for centuries before its ruins were discovered in the late 16th century.

Take a trip to Pompei 🇮🇹
Pompei is a famous ancient city that was destroyed by the mighty volcano Vesuvius years ago. It is now a tourism destination for many wanting to learn about the history of this great city and one of the worst disasters in human recorded history.
It is very close to the big city of Naples, and being in the Campania region, the city is surrounded by nature consisting of mountains, greenery, and plenty of animal life.
There are plenty of places to eat here including a cafeteria where you can get some of the typical Italian foods one may like or even international snacks. However, be warned because it is a bit more expensive to buy food here instead of eating before coming.
Pompei can be reached by bus only about an hour away, or by car taxi and many tourist groups can be seen here in the summer.
The city is wide and vast so be sure to wear walking shoes for the cobblestones. View in awe the many houses, gardens, and places people lived.
There are museums and a gift shop one can visit for souvenirs too.
I especially enjoy the views of the villas people of wealth used to live in with the open roofs and big garden areas.
Overall. I would say that this is worth a visit if you happen to be in the Campania region or visiting the city of Naples.
DON’T MISS OUT!! It’s worth a visit.

Pompeii was an ancient city located in what is now the comune of Pompei near Naples in the Campania region of Italy. Pompeii, along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area (e.g. at Boscoreale, Stabiae), was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Largely preserved under the ash, the excavated city offered a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was buried, and an extraordinarily detailed insight into the everyday life of its inhabitants, although much of the evidence was lost in the early excavations. It was a wealthy town, enjoying many fine public buildings and luxurious private houses with lavish decorations, furnishings and works of art which were the main attractions for the early excavators. Organic remains, including wooden objects and human bodies, were entombed in the ash. Over time, they decayed, leaving voids which archaeologists found could be used as moulds to make plaster casts of unique — and often gruesome — figures in their final moments of life. The numerous graffiti carved on the walls and inside rooms provide a wealth of examples of the largely lost Vulgar Latin spoken colloquially at the time, contrasting with the formal language of the classical writers.
Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy, with approximately 2.5 million visitors annually.
After many excavations prior to 1960 that had uncovered most of the city but left it in decay, further major excavations were banned and instead they were limited to targeted, prioritised areas. In 2018, these led to new discoveries in some previously unexplored areas of the city.

Exploring Ancient Pompeii
Pompeii is such a vast complex and our 2 hours spent there only covered two regions. It was surreal to explore an ancient city. To be able to walk on Roman roads, enter residences, buildings and arenas that stood for thousands of years was really amazing. Looking at the remains of the victims of the volcanic eruption was sobering to say the least. Their last moments frozen in time.
As it is such a huge area to cover, wear comfortable shoes as you’ll be walking on cobbled ancient roads and paths. Also, if you’re there in summer like we were, dress comfortably because the Italian summer, although beautiful, the heat can be really scorching!
Unfortunately, Our driver was waiting so we had to cut the visit short. I was sad I couldn’t get to see some of the things Mary Beard highlighted on her BBC series. It’s an incredible place and we’ll definitely return.

Pompeii resurgence as a bustling city once again
#100WaysOfTravel who would have imagined after thousands of years buried in the ashes of Mt Vesuvius, Pompeii is once again a bustling city, only this time with hoards of tourists instead of local city dwellers. Still as majestic as ever. How did these ancient folks have such modern cities with such amazing art and amenities baffles me! Everyone has to go to Pompeii at least once in their lifetime to witness this world marvel!

Pompeii, what can I say
Destroyed by Vesuvius almost 2000 years ago, the first thing that may surprise you when entering the huge archaeological site of Pompeii is how much of the city is still intact. Of course one of the most famous sites are the unfortunate victims encased in stone but exploring each corner of the city you will discover so much more about how people lived, worked and worshipped during that time
Some of our highlights included the ruins of the amphitheater, the gladiator barracks and the Villa Del Misteri with its unbelievable fresco #100waysoftravel

The ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed, but it is eternal.
On August 24, 79 AD, Mount Vesuvius erupted 🌋
In just a few hours, the ancient city of Pompeii was destroyed.
I can't imagine how desperate the people were at that time.
-
It wasn't until 2015 that archaeologists and scientists began to restore the ancient city that had been buried for thousands of years.
-
Important buildings surround the municipal square, including the Temple of Jupiter, the Temple of Apollo, the Great Hall, the baths, and the mall, as well as theaters, gymnasiums, amphitheaters, aqueducts, and other essential Roman municipal buildings. There are many workshops and shops, all set up by industry, along with a large number of residential houses. Walking on the streets of Pompeii today, you can feel like you're traveling through time.

Walking Through Pompeii: Memories of That Day Hidden in Volcanic Ash
You can also visit Pompeii by departing from Rome. From Roma Termini station, take a high-speed train towards Salerno, which takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Then transfer to a local train from Salerno to Pompeii, which takes about 40 minutes. This route is convenient for travelers starting from Rome and offers the advantage of exploring the beautiful coastal city of Salerno as well.
Pompeii is a city that vanished overnight due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and it is an important archaeological site that vividly showcases the daily life and culture of the Roman Empire. Thanks to the volcanic ash, buildings and artifacts are well-preserved, providing valuable insights into ancient Roman architecture, art, and social structure. When you visit, you can see the 'Forum,' 'Baths,' and 'Theater,' which allow you to experience life as it was 2,000 years ago.
When I visited Pompeii, what impressed me the most was that the entire city felt like a giant museum. The frescoes and mosaics preserved in the volcanic ash were particularly striking, as they vividly depicted the artistic sensibilities and daily lives of the people at the time. Additionally, the stories of Pompeii's residents shared by the guide made the site feel like a living history rather than just ruins. Pompeii offers a unique experience that goes beyond mere tourism, allowing you to step into a scene from history.

Romantic Italy - Naples and Pompeii Ruins.
Legend has it that Naples was founded in 680 BC and the city was named Partenope, which was later incorporated into the city of Neapolis established by the Greeks of Cumae. 150 years later, Naples fell into the hands of the Romans. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Naples became a duchy until it was conquered by the Normans in 1139, and then the Normans were replaced by the Germanic Swabians. In the Battle of Benevento in 1266, Charles I of Anjou defeated the Swabians. In 1442, Naples fell into the hands of the Spanish Aragon. In 1734, the Spanish Bourbon dynasty established Naples as the capital of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, until the rule of the Bourbon dynasty in Naples was ended by the King of Italy and Garibaldi in 1869, and Naples was incorporated into Italy.
The ancient city of Naples has been listed as a World Cultural Heritage site, and the three east-west streets in the city still maintain the original layout of ancient Neapolis.

Pompeii 🗺️❤️
I recently visited the Pompeii Archaeological Park in Italy, and it was an unforgettable experience! 🏛️ Located near Naples, Pompeii is a must-visit for history buffs and anyone fascinated by ancient Roman life. The entrance fee was around 16 euros, which is well worth it for the chance to explore such an extensive and well-preserved site.
Walking through the ruins, I was amazed by how much has survived since the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The streets, houses, and public buildings give a vivid picture of daily life in ancient times. Highlights for me were the Amphitheater, the Villa of the Mysteries with its stunning frescoes, and the Forum, which offers breathtaking views of Vesuvius in the background. 🏺
Nearby, the modern city of Naples is just a short train ride away, offering incredible museums like the National Archaeological Museum, which houses many artifacts from Pompeii. The Amalfi Coast is also within reach for those looking to combine history with some of Italy's most beautiful coastal scenery. Don't miss the chance to hike up Mount Vesuvius for a closer look at the volcano that shaped this remarkable site.
Pompeii is a captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. It’s a must-see destination that truly brings the past to life. #Pompeii #Italy #AncientHistory #TravelItaly 🏛️🇮🇹

A trip to the Archaeological Park of Pompeii: The Next Best thing to Time Travel
Visiting Pompeii has been on my bucket list for the longest time, and finally getting to visit was absolutely amazing.
Dubbed by tour guides as ‘a trip into the past,’ they’re not far off; it’s incredible how well preserved the ancient city is, from political graffiti on the walls to the stunningly intricate mosaics covering the floors. You can even see the grooves in the street where ancient carts would have been pulled along by horses!
My advice to potential visitors: wear the comfiest shoes you own, bring lots of water (and suncream) if the weather looks good, and plan your route beforehand, the city is huge! #pompeiiwonders #historicallandmarks #ancienthistory

Pompeii - time travel made a reality
What an unbelievable place.
Feel like you’re back in time… drink water from fountains, cross zebra crossing. See age old mosaics, visit temples and amphitheatres. As a family we had an amazing guide. He made Pompeii come alive. We even visited the Roman baths.
I cannot recommend a visit highly enough.
Wear a hat and take water as it’s very open and gets very hot and give yourself a whole day or even two… this really is a city!! You could spend a week and not see it all. #familytrip #historicallandmarks #localguides #mytravelhacks
