Poshanu Cham Tower, also known by many names such as Po Sah Anaih Temple or Pho Hai Cham Tower, is a Hindu temple built during the ancient Champa period. The temple is located on Ba Nai Hill, in Phu Hai Ward, about 7km northeast of Phan Thiet City Center, Binh Thuan Province.
Poshanu Cham Tower in Phan Thiet is considered a work that converges the most unique architectural quintessence of the Cham people. After thousands of years of history, with many ups and downs of the country, today the Cham towers are still preserved intact and have become a famous tourist destination not to be missed for travel enthusiasts when traveling to Mui Ne Phan Thiet.
According to many historical documents, Poshanu Cham tower was built around the end of the 8th century, the beginning of the 9th century under the ancient Champa dynasty to worship Shiva. This is the most respected and worshiped Hindu god in Champa culture at that time.
Around the 15th century, a number of other small structures were built around the main temple to worship Princess Poshanu. Nang was the one who made great contributions in teaching people to grow rice, raise livestock and weave brocade. Notably, during the restoration process from 1992 to 2000, archaeologists also discovered a very large temple buried underground for more than 300 years.
With its unique architectural features and great cultural and historical values, Poshanư Phan Thiet Cham Tower was recognized as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 1991.
When visiting Poshanư Phan Thiet Cham Tower, anyone must be amazed and surprised by the unique and sophisticated Hoa Lai architecture of the ancient Champa people at that time. The entire complex consists of 3 towers.
Chinh A Tower
Chinh A Tower is the most majestic and magnificent temple in the Poshanư Cham Tower complex. This tower is 15 meters high, has 4 floors, with 4 triangular doors facing 4 directions. The higher it goes, the smaller the area of the tower becomes, forming a pyramid shape typical of ancient Champa architecture. The decorative motifs are extremely meticulous and elaborate. In particular, they are arranged very harmoniously, giving us a feeling of not being heavy and confusing.
The entire tower is built from tens of thousands of red bricks. They are connected together extremely perfectly and skillfully, creating a massive architectural work that lasts over time. Many people speculate that the bricks are made from plant resin.
