Croatia Plitvice Lakes.
Visited Plitvice Lakes in early May
At this time, the upper lakes were already open, but there weren't many tourists, so it wasn't crowded.
We planned a day and a half at Plitvice Lakes.
Stayed at a hotel near the lower lakes, so we could rest immediately after hiking.
However, we found that if it's not peak season and there's no crowd, one day is actually enough.
We traveled with my 65-year-old parents, and it rained on the first day.
But we almost finished the hike in one day and saved the upper lakes for the second day.
We took the K route, which took us about 4 hours as a reference for everyone.
Along the way, there are various lakes and waterfalls, with incredibly clear water.
It's not very tiring to walk.
At the entrance, you can overlook the waterfalls scattered among the lakes. Don't miss it.
Tickets can be booked online or bought on-site.
(In peak season, you must buy in advance due to traffic control.)
Also, after 2 PM, no tickets are required!
It becomes a free park entry. 😂
Oh, and for those driving, be sure to watch your speed when heading to Plitvice Lakes!
We saw police ambushing by the lake for two consecutive days.

Embracing Nature's Beauty at Plitvice Lakes National Park

In late September, we visited the breathtaking Plitvice Lakes National Park, a true haven for nature lovers. The park is renowned for its cascading waterfalls and interconnected lakes, where the crystal-clear waters shimmer in shades of turquoise and emerald. As we wandered along the wooden boardwalks, we were surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sound of rushing water. The park is vast, and we took a boat ride across one of the larger lakes, allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of this natural wonder. Later, we hiked to a higher vantage point, where we were rewarded with a stunning aerial view of the entire park, showcasing its intricate network of waterfalls and lakes. Being immersed in such pristine nature was a truly unforgettable experience, leaving us in awe of the world’s natural beauty.

It's so beautiful ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ with the abundant natural beauty in Croatia. Visit the beautiful Adriatic sea and marvel at the blue and clear water. This is due to the high salt concentration and geographic location.
Another stunning natural beauty in Croatia to check out is the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Surrounded by lush greenery and mountains, the 16 terraced turquoise lakes and waterfalls are simply captivating and a must-visit tourist attraction.

Around 2 hours away from Zagreb or 3 hours from Split, the Plitvice Lakes National Park can only be reached by private transport or day tour with a Croatia travel agency. I will recommend to go with a day tour as they will be able to guide you the nature trails around the Lower Lakes as well as the Upper Lakes. The guide will bring you around the park to admire and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the UNESCO World Heritage site - the 16 terraced lakes, breathtaking canyons, and more than 90 waterfalls. You can also admire the highest waterfall, Veliki Slap in Croatia at Plitvice Lakes.

Croatia is a country located at the intersection of Central Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans. It looks like a crescent moon on the map. Croatia has a long coastline, the longest among the Balkan countries, with beautiful scenery along the way; it has over 1185 islands, earning it the nickname 'Country of a Thousand Islands'. The most famous is Plitvice Lakes, where 16 natural lakes are connected, with a large amount of calcium carbonate limestone deposits in the lakes, presenting green, gray, blue, etc., forming an ultimate natural landscape.

Speaking of Croatia, one must first mention Dubrovnik, also known as 'King's Landing' in the famous 'Game of Thrones'. Even if you're not a fan of the show, it's more customary to call it King's Landing, as it seems to show the grandeur of this ancient city.

Plitvice Lakes National Park
The Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and the largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. The exceptional natural beauty of this area has always attracted nature lovers.
Plitvice Lakes are reachable on a day trip from Zagreb, Zadar and Split. However, we recommend spending at least one night in the area to allow you to experience everything the park has to offer. With this in mind, plan at least 2 days for visiting Plitvice Lakes National Park.
Although visitors aren't allowed to swim in the lakes directly, just few kilometers north of the National Park, swimming is possible!
If possible, spend at least one full day at the lakes to make the most of your day trip to Plitvice. Of course, it's also a good option if you can spend the night over, but visiting Plitvice in one day is doable
The best months to visit Plitvice are June and September.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at least 2 days prior to arrival. You can also buy your entry tickets at the Park, but with the risk that they will not be available because the number of tickets per hour is limited because of possible overcrowding.
Lightweight clothing like T-shirts and shorts are a must as well as hats, sunglasses, and sunblock.
Amazing day!

There are three entrances to the Plitvice Lakes National Park (commonly known as the 16th Lake), which is known as the Jiuzhaigou Valley in Europe. However, not every entrance is open all year round. For the sake of insurance, most people get off at the first entrance (that is, the first stop in the scenic spot) and buy tickets into the scenic spot.
From Zagreb, it takes about an hour to get there by car. There are not many people in the area. It is very pleasant. The lake is crystal clear. Many parents take the children to play and take a lot of local photos~
here It is a limestone landform in the upper reaches of the Korana River. After thousands of years of erosion and deposition, many travertine slopes are formed. The development of natural dams has spawned a series of lakes, caves and waterfalls to create a magnificent natural wonder. This wonderful geological process continues to happen today. The forests in the park are home to wild bears, wild wolves and many rare birds.

Zadar, well worth a side trip?
The Croatian coastline increasing popularity of the past decade has led to crowds descending on the famous resorts of Dubrovnik and Split, especially with their connection to Game of Thrones.
For this still longing for the Croatia of old, Zadar might be the answer. Located on the beautiful Adriatic coastline the city combines both a beautiful coastline with a stunning old city centre and harbour hosting a delightful range of cafes, shops, restaurants and bars.
Not only this Zadar provides the perfect stopping point for those wanting to visit the natural wonders of the Plitvice Lakes national park #croatia #zadar

The Jiuzhaigou of Europe - Plitvice Lakes National Park
Plitvice Lakes National Park, also known as the Sixteen Lakes, is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Croatia. The park covers an area of 19,462 hectares, more than 70% of which is forest. There are 16 interconnected mountain lakes in the park, with an altitude difference of 133 meters from the first lake to the sixteenth lake. The Sixteen Lakes National Park is the most proud business card of Croatian tourism.
The sixteen crystal clear lakes are naturally scattered along the mountains from high to low, and the ups and downs of the terrain have created hundreds of streams and waterfalls in the mountains. The lakes in the mountains are like human blood, flowing all the time, agile and quiet. Away from the world, from the moment you step into the national park, people embark on a magical journey of nature.
There are 16 large lakes in the national park, and there are also limestone landforms such as waterfalls, rapids, and dark rivers. Due to the unique blue-green lakes in the limestone area, the dead trees in the lake are also covered with calcite, which is similar to Jiuzhaigou in China, so it is jokingly called "Jiuzhaigou in Europe". I think there are significant differences between the two: Jiuzhaigou is atmospheric, colorful, and hidden between the snow-capped mountains; while the sixteen lakes are like small jade, delicate and delicate, revealing a delicate beauty. Most importantly, the sixteen lakes have not yet been occupied by the crowds.
Overlooking from the top of the cliff, the lakes of the Sixteen Lakes National Park are like a few jades, and the rapids next to them are like necklaces. The Sixteen Lakes is a string of lakes on the upper reaches of the Korana River. As soon as you enter the park, you will be attracted by the 78-meter-high Veliki Slap waterfall. Although the waterfall is high, the flowing water is like a beauty's hair, with two layers of cascading, revealing extraordinary soft beauty. The Korana River flows in the deep valley, forming countless large and small lakes. The rapids of the necklace are set off in it, setting off the verdant new leaves. The blue-green scenery evokes the endless spring.

⛱️Must-visit attraction: Plitvice Lakes National Park
Plitvice Lakes area is the most beautiful national park in Croatia, consisting of 16 interconnected natural lakes, hence commonly known as the Sixteen Lakes. It covers a total area of 2000 hectares and stretches 10 kilometers. Plitvice Lakes was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO's World Natural and Cultural Heritage Committee in 1980.
🌄Travel Guide: The 'Sixteen Lakes' meander through the valley in a banded pattern, divided into the Upper Lakes and Lower Lakes areas. The Upper Lakes area consists of 12 lakes with dolomite bottoms; the Lower Lakes area includes 4 lakes located in a limestone canyon, namely Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluđerovac, and Novakovića. Walking along the paths by the lakes, visitors can get close to the water.
🏨Accommodation Guide: Hotel Frankopan Restaurant is 50 kilometers from the park, making it convenient to visit Croatia's capital Zagreb, which is 100 kilometers away, the next day.
💗Other tips: You need to take a boat to enter the park, see picture 2. Then walk along the wooden paths by the lakes, ending with a hike to see the waterfalls. It was raining when we visited, so the waterfalls were large, but the lake water was not very clear. The whole trip takes 3 hours.

Plitvice Lakes National Park
Stunning scenery. It's worth the few hours drive from Zagreb. To truly appreciate this national park, you should spend a day or two nights to complete a longer hike. The hiking routes are well posted. The park entrance fee is 10 euros per person.
We visited the lakes in September 2023. The ticket was 40 euros per person. Tickets can be purchased online. They send you the ticket by mail, and you show the ticket QR code on your phone. The routes are marked in different colors: green from entrance 1, orange from entrance 2. We chose route H. Start at entrance 2 at 8 AM. With a 6-year-old child, we hiked 11km in 7 hours. We didn't rush. Some of the way we traveled by bus (route 2) and boat. Tickets were checked when boarding the bus and boat. At the end of the route, there was a large flow of people, and many organized groups. The website has an application that you can install on your phone. The application determines your location and shows the next steps of the route. There are many restaurants on site to try, but we ate alone. We paid 10 euros for parking. The lakes are unique and worth the visit.
Highly recommended.
