This place is wonderful, yet offer windy on the beach, however well worth a day and even a night stay in one of the many hotels and hostel Tarifa has to offer! The park square is right in front of the old city wall viewing platform, and behind it is the town's town hall surrounded by beautiful buildings. There is an interesting frog fountain with bright colors in the middle of the park. Its appearance is the most famous and attractive. It consists of an Arab arch dating back to the 13th century Benimeri territorial period and is guarded by two crenellated towers. You don't see many birds or other animals except seagulls. The Interpretation Centre is well equipped and provides a brief history of the island as well as information on the local flora and fauna and other features of the Strait of Gibraltar. The visit starts at 12 noon, but you must buy your tickets a little earlier at the tourist office in the city center (4 euros for adults, must be paid by card). This is the only slightly problematic aspect of visiting the island. The local guide gave a brief explanation in Spanish and English. Built and maintained as a defensive structure due to Tarifa's strategic importance, different kings and cultures modified its structure. The castle is generally well protected. The castle's interior rooms have a large series of rooms that tell the history of the castle, with faithful replicas of various catapults, armor, archaeological finds from the era before the castle was built. The views from the upper floors of the castle are great. A walk along the castle walls offers a 360-degree panoramic view of Tarifa from the top, with stunning sea views and, if the weather is clear, a clear view of the African coast. The lady at the ticket office was very friendly. The visit lasts about 45 minutes and the entrance fee is 5 euros.
