It might be green and glorious but there’s an underworld of limestone caves and underground rivers churning beneath your feet. You can only visit it during a two-week expedition with a team of porters but that’s fine because there are plenty of others you can see on a day trip. I’ve never in my life seen such weird and wonderful natural shapes and formations as I did during my time in Phong Nha! What’s so amazing about Phong Nha is that much of it is relatively undiscovered. Swimming in a cave opened to the public less than two years ago was undoubtedly one of the best things I did in Southeast Asia. If you’re looking for a time to visit Phong Nha, it’s definitely sooner rather than later.

Take a trip down into one of the largest cave systems in the world. Phong Nha National Park is one of the many wonders of Viet Nam. We had the privilege of just doing that and highly recommend you add it to your to do list. The cave systems that are open to the public are very well built with proper stairways and pathways. Park areas are also very clean and have decent toilets. My personal highlight was witnessing the strength of Vietnamese locals who paddle up to 10 or more people down a 1km cave system without breaking a sweat! impressive to say the least.
