[2025 Svay Leu Attraction] Travel Guide for Phnom Kulen National Park (Updated Feb)

CHASING WATERFALLS 💦💦 || CAMBODIA 🇰🇭 📍The mountains of the Phnom Kulen National Park to the north of the city are the source for some of the waterways which wind around the temples and town on the plains. 📍I visited Phnom Kulen Waterfall which is naturally the most popular waterfall in Phnom Kulen, with the height and the rocky bottom of the falls creating a misty water spray at the edge of the cool plunge pool. The gorge the falls have created is nicely enclosed, giving the sense of being separated from the world in a beautiful little cove. Only about an hour’s drive from Siem Reap the waterfalls in the area are well worth a visit. What a nice half day visit to this waterfall. It is beautiful and certainly a site to see. I got some fantastic photos here. The locals take photos and are printed in the area , I believe they overpriced because we are tourists ,lol . The waterfall It's not incredibly deep I could stand in the water. We had a lovely guide who held our stuff whilst we went in for a swim . 
📍There is a lot of walking, especially steep walking so wear comfortable shoes and bring your own drink. You will get super wet, goes without saying.Their pristine settings and fresh, cool water. 📍It was a great escape from Siem Reap. I had a really good time, the tour guide was knowledgeable about both the mountain and Cambodia’s history. Located about 50 kilometers from the city of Siem Reap, Phnom Kulen is one of Cambodia’s most revered sites. According to legend, it was here that King Jayavarman II declared you independence from Java in 802 CE and thus began the Khmer Empire – as an independent nation. Additionally, it’s a very sacred site with multiple temples easily accessible. Those were words from internet but you understand why I needed to jump on my motorbike to go and have a look. It is weird how there are almost no signs here in Cambodia, without Google maps I would completely get lost. But now it was a nice ride going there. This is what I like, I see something on the internet or a map and I’ll try to figure out my way there. Some beautiful sights to see and overall a great adventure. It is about 60km northeast of Siem Reap, and takes about an hour and a half by car. In addition to the impressive Kulen Waterfall, there are many other attractions, such as Preah Ang Thom Temple, where you can see Cambodia's oldest ruins, a thousand lingas, and a reclining Buddha! It is said that there are more than 50 ruins and stone statues in the park, and the stones quarried here were also used in the construction of Angkor Wat. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ Phnom Kulen literally means "Lychee Hill," but in Cambodia it is an object of worship as a "Holy Mountain." Phnom Kulen is considered the birthplace of Cambodia, as it was here in 802 that King Jayavarman II declared independence from Jaya. In Hinduism, which had a major influence on Khmer culture, it is said that "sacred places are mountains at the center of the world," and there is a theory that Phnom Kulen, which has a similar topography, was worshiped as a sacred place. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 📍Kulen Waterfall This is the highlight of Phnom Kulen tourism. There are two waterfalls, one large and one small, and the larger one is about 20m high and very impressive. Locals often come here to cool off, and it's surprising to see both adults and children swimming in the pool! ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ 📍Thousand Lingas Constructed in the 8th century, this is one of the oldest ruins in Siem Reap. Symbols of the god Vishnu, called lingas, and sculptures of the god Brahma are carved into the river. The water that flows over these sculptures becomes "holy water" and is believed to bring good fortune. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ You can get to the base of Phnom Kulen by tuk-tuk, but the mountain road is steep, so from halfway you can only enter by car. #songkran2024 An awesome national park that's quite a bumpy and windy ride getting up there. There's a bit of structures available to help you get to specific locations such as staircases and bridges, but some of them are deteriorating so be careful (holes). Once you get to the bottom there is a wonderful waterfall to swim in, with lockers and changing rooms available or you can just change with a towel or yolo it. It's rather cramp around the outskirts of the swimming area, so be mindful that it may be crowded. There's also a swing set to take photos with if you are into that kind of thing.

#bucketlistreboot Located atop Kulen Mountain its an easy to reach site offering impressive views across the canyon below in between the mountain ranges. It is around 1 to 2 minutes 150 metres walk from the main road. Be careful it might be slippery, did not stand to near the edge.

#bucketlistreboot The river of 1000 lingas owes its name to the images of Hindu gods, their spouses and the over 1000 lingas carved on the bed and river banks of Siem Reap river in Phnom Kulen, Banteay Srei district, around 60 kilometers 2 hours of driving from Siem Reap town. No public transport, agreed the price with Tuk Tuk, taxi or book a tour on the town, driving to this place makes it difficult because of uneven and muddy roads. The lingas are a symbol of God Shiva and were built to purify the water and make it fertile to then irrigate the rice fields. Further in there is a pool in between two shrine houses, locals say the water was from the mountain and the sand will bubble out, if you clap your hand, the movements will be getting greater.
