🇩🇪Enjoy the tranquility and beauty of Heidelberg. A greedy trip that also includes a trip to Cologne | A 3-day model itinerary
Recently, I enjoyed a three-day trip based in Ziegelhausen in Heidelberg, Germany. 🇩🇪
This area is recommended for those who want to spend a relaxing stay, as it is close to quiet residential areas and has abundant nature along the river. It is also easily accessible, and I was able to easily visit major spots such as the Philosopher's Path, the old town, and the castle.
⸻
🏰 [Day 1] The historic old town and Heidelberg Castle
First, the classic tourist course. We took the cable car to Heidelberg Castle.
📌In fact, the ticket for this cable car includes the admission fee to the castle, so it is definitely more economical than buying admission tickets separately!
The cityscape overlooking the castle is truly spectacular, and it is also an excellent photo spot.
After that, we took a leisurely stroll through the old town (Altstadt). There are historical buildings and stylish boutiques lined up, and you will forget the time passing.
⸻
🚄【Day 2】Day trip to Cologne on Sunday!
Many stores in Germany are closed on Sundays, so we took a day trip to Cologne using the German Rail Pass!
Thanks to the German Rail Pass, we could ride the ICE at no extra charge and travel efficiently. The power of looking up at the Cologne Cathedral was overwhelming.
The transportation network is well developed, so we can flexibly change our plans according to the weather and holidays. I realized that this is the good thing about traveling in Germany.
We finished sightseeing around noon and had dinner in Heidelberg.
⸻
☕【Day 3】 Relaxing at the Philosopher's Path and Cafe
On the last day, we took a leisurely stroll along the Philosopher's Path (Philosophenweg). The view of the Neckar River and the cityscape of Heidelberg from a small hill is truly beautiful, and it soothes the fatigue of the journey.
We crossed the old bridge (Alte Brücke) and returned to the old town, where we took a short break at a cafe ☕
To conclude the day's trip, we strolled around the old town again before heading to the next town.
⸻
🍴Highlight of the trip: Authentic German food at "Löwenbräu"!
For dinner, we had the specialty Schweinhaxe (roasted pork shank) at "Löwenbräu" in the old town.
The skin was crispy and the inside was juicy, and it went perfectly with German beer! It comes on a large plate, so it's recommended to share it.
⸻
🏨Accommodation: "Hilton Heidelberg"
We stayed at the Hilton Heidelberg. It was within walking distance of the old town, so it was convenient to go anywhere.
The lobby was sophisticated and the staff were friendly. The room was clean, so we had a safe stay.
(※There are few amenities, so we recommend bringing your own 🧴)
⸻
📝Summary: Three very satisfying days packed with nature, history, gourmet food, and urban experiences
While staying in the quiet Ziegelhausen area, we were able to fully enjoy the charm of Heidelberg and even extend our trip to Cologne, making it a luxurious three days.
☑️ Get a great deal on sightseeing with a cable car + castle admission package
☑️ We recommend visiting a different city on Sunday!
☑️ The view from the Philosopher's Path is exceptional! A must-see spot.
