Ancient City
Perge Ancient City is located in Aksu district, 18 kilometers 25 minutes drive away from Antalya city centre. It is open daily from 0800-1700.
Perge was known as one of the most organized cities of the Roman period, the city walls date back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Two towers had survived in good condition at the entrance of the site.
There are 3 thermal bath complexes with different temperatures dated back to the 2nd century, the heating system under the floor can be seen till today.
The Agora was the commercial and political center of the city, with rows of columns and shops all around the centre courtyard. You can discover an interesting boardgame there.
At the end of the columned street there is a monumental fountain dedicated to Emperor Hadrian.
Perge stadium is one of the best stadiums that has survived from the ancient world, it measures 34 square meters with 13 rows of seats.
Perge is also the holy city mentioned in the Bible. It is the starting point of the road, which is accepted as St Paul's way.
Most of the artifacts excavated are displayed at the Antalya Archeology Museum.

Perge Ruins - Antalya
It is one of the most interesting ancient site of ruins I’ve visited in Antalya province! Perge Ruins have a 2000-year-old history and it is one of the biggest ancient settlements that have survived as a whole. Perge is famous for its Roman ruins and its big amphitheater with a capacity of 15,000 people.
The place is huge. Including the ancient theatre, it took us around 4,5 hours to explore the area. We saw some people rushing through, and I guess it is possible to see everything in 2 hours if you just want to take some quick pictures. But I recommend to spend there at least 3-4 hours to see all the details of this wonderful place!
Perge Ruins are located 19 km east of Antalya.

Spring Travel in Turkey | Perge Ancient City is a Must-Visit
When traveling in Antalya, Turkey, besides enjoying the sea, you certainly shouldn't miss the historical sites here. Highly recommended is the Perge Ancient City, not far from the city center.
/
⭕️ 'About Perge Ancient City':
Perge Ancient City was founded in the 3rd century BC, and it has experienced Greek, Roman, and Christian periods, thriving for over a thousand years. It is one of the ancient cities with a long history in the Mediterranean region.
/
⭕️ 'Attractions and Activities':
The ancient city is divided into two parts: the theater and the main city, separated by a road in between.
✔️ Theater:
The theater of the ancient city, compared to the Aspendos Theater, is more dilapidated but still quite spectacular.
You can climb up and down, and people appear very small within the entire theater.
✔️ Main City:
The main city is also quite ruined, but the functional areas are still relatively complete, with churches, baths, worship sites, arenas, etc., and are well worth a visit.
✔️ Market Street:
Exiting the main city, there is a small market street where local elders sell some small souvenirs. If interested, you can also take a look.
/
⭕️ 'Tickets and Timing':
✔️ Ticket: 250 Lira per person, the ticket is valid for both the theater and the main city, so don't buy it repeatedly.
✔️ Timing: 08:30-17:00
/
⭕️ 'Transportation Tips':
The ancient city is about 15 kilometers from the city center.
You can take the urban rail T1 to 'Aksu', and after getting off, a walk of about 2.1km (half an hour) will get you there.
Note that you should take the correct T1, not the one going to the airport.

Travel guide to Antalya, Turkey, exploring the beauty of history
📍Destination: Antalya, Turkey
🌟Highlights: Historical sites, perfect combination of nature and humanities
✨Experience sharing:
Antalya, Turkey, a magical place where history and nature intersect. 🏞️Here, I feel as if I have traveled through time and space, immersed in the glory of the ancient Roman Empire. 🏰Every ancient city, every temple, tells a thousand-year-old story.
🏩Accommodation recommendation:
In Antalya, I chose a guesthouse in the old town, which is close to various attractions and surrounded by delicious food, allowing me to enjoy a wonderful night.
✨Itinerary recommendation:
In Antalya, in addition to the previously shared Antalya Ancient City and Hadrian's Gate, there are several places that can be connected in one day! 🏰🗿The next morning, we chartered a car to the ancient city of Side, which was an important trade center in ancient times and known as the 'City of Pomegranates'. Then, we visited the temples of Apollo and Athena, the Aspendos ancient theater, and the ancient city of Perga. These places not only allowed me to appreciate the charm of ancient civilization, but also deepened my understanding of human wisdom and creativity. 🏛️🏟️
✨Travel tips:
Antalya was founded in the second century BC and is an important port in the Mediterranean. So when planning your itinerary, leave some extra time for this historic city.
The ancient city of Side is a city with a long history, with many ancient Greek and Roman buildings scattered around, it is an open-air history museum of Turkey. Walking here is like being in the long river of history. 🏛️🏞️
The Aspendos ancient theater is one of the best-preserved Roman theaters in the Mediterranean region. After more than 1700 years, it still holds concerts every year. The acoustic design here is very unique, which is amazing! 🏟️🎵🎶
In the ancient city of Perga, you can see many ancient architectural ruins. Even if you only see these ruins, you can imagine its past glory and prosperity. It was once one of the richest and most beautiful cities in the world. 🏛️The glory and prosperity on the ruins are amazing!

If you appreciate history, you will love Perge
💰Entrance Fee: 100 ₺
⏰ Opening Hours : Open Daily 8 AM–7:45 PM
🚌 Getting there: Take the tram (direction EXPO) and get off at "Aksu" stop. Walk 15-20 minutes, and you're there!
🔆Highlights:
➖the stadium, the columned streets, the agora, the Byzantine gate. The theatre.
➖ do read the panels with the explanations, we found them very well written, and when you read them you really get a feeling for how the people who lived in Perge must have moved through the city going about their daily lives.
It is a huge ancient city rooted in the Bronze Age, where you can see magnificent ruins in Aksu district of Antalya. Perge is the city where Apollonious was born, Greek Mathematician Apollonious, and is considered as one of the most beautiful cities of the Hellenistic Period and was the capital of Pamphylia Region.
The amphitheater is out of the city where the museum can be entered with a museum pass card, and the entrance is separate. The most remarkable points in the ancient city of Perge are the amphitheater, stadium, big street with columns and The Nympahion of Kestros.
Although most of the city is still under the ground, it takes hours to travel. I do not recommend traveling in hot summer times because you may not find a place to stay in the shade except for the trees at the entrance. Every point of Perge Ancient City, where my visit lasted long after Ephesus, was beautiful. I strongly recommend you to visit here.
