The People's Liberation Monument is located in the center of Jiefangbei Commercial Pedestrian Street in Yuzhong District, Chongqing. It is a spiritual symbol of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and a symbol of the liberation of Chongqing and Chongqing City. The People's Liberation Monument is an octagonal columnar helmet-top reinforced concrete structure. The monument is 27.5 meters high and 2.55 meters long. There are eight floors inside and underground, with a spiral staircase leading to the top of the monument. There are self-ringing clocks on the four sides of the top of the monument facing the street, and flower beds around the monument platform. The monument stands tall, expressing the lofty respect for the revolutionary martyrs with its simple and powerful design. It has been selected as one of the "Top Ten Cultural Symbols of Chongqing" and "Top Ten New Cultural and Tourism Landmarks of Chengdu and Chongqing". The People's Liberation Monument is a microcosm of Chongqing's urban development and the spiritual home of Chongqing people. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Liberation Monument was a "spiritual fortress" that inspired and mobilized the people. After the founding of New China, Chongqing transformed the area near the People's Liberation Monument into China's first commercial pedestrian street, and gradually developed it into a financial center for Chongqing and even the west. The Liberation Monument has become a landmark building in Chongqing. The People

The People’s Liberation Monument is a major attraction in Central Chongqing. It can seem underwhelming, however, as the surrounding urban construction very much dominates and towers over it. Chongqing was important during the Second World War and several monuments and markers to that time dot the city. #mynovgetaway
