Visit Peng Chau to experience the slow life at its most Hong Kong!
Peng Chau Island in Hong Kong is an outlying district surrounded by water, where life is completely different from the fast-paced urban areas. Here, you can see residents brewing tea and sitting under big trees to cool off; you can see many cats lazily lying on the lawn basking in the sun; you can see residents chatting with neighbors about the bits and pieces of life... In a trance, it's hard to believe this is the fast-paced Hong Kong.
Moreover, unlike the urban areas of Hong Kong, there are very few tourists here, making the visiting experience very pleasant. Some places on the island still retain the old-time scenery, as if time has flowed backwards. Abandoned old factories, beautiful beaches, temples, vibrant street art, and colorful houses all make this place feel very comfortable.
Transportation: From the MTR Central Station, take exit F, walk straight on the footbridge to Pier No. 6 (towards Peng Chau Mui Wo) to take the ferry, which takes about half an hour.
Cost: Visiting the island is free, and the ferry fare can be paid directly with the Octopus card.
Time: There are many ferry services from Central to Peng Chau Island, running from early morning to evening, with a ferry every half hour, from 7 am to 8 pm.

Located only 8 kilometres from the west of Hong Kong Island, Peng Chau is easily accessible and only a ferry ride away from the Central Ferry Pier Number 6, which makes it a perfect day trip destination!!
Peng Chau is home to only 6,000 inhabitants, therefore, as compared with other more popular islands on Hong Kong, for example, Cheung Chau and Mui Wo, Peng Chau offers a relaxing retreat for visitors.
Since I am from Hong Kong, I did not go all tourist mode when visiting Peng Chau. I skipped all the temples and beaches, and spent my day visiting cafes, the leather factory and the outdoor art installations in the junkyard on Wing On Street.
Up until the Japanese Occupation, Peng Chau used had a booming leather business. Thankfully, the factory site was not demolished. At the front of the factory site, you can find loads of coffee shops and other retail outlets; and at the back, there is a massive outdoor junkyard installation. It is definitely worthwhile paying a visit.
If you are planning a visit to Peng Chau after this post, I would also recommend visiting “Island Table Grocer Café”, their apple pies are one of the best I have had!!

Peng Chau is a small island located in the western part of Hong Kong's outlying islands!
The island offers a relaxing getaway from the city's hustle and bustle, with its narrow streets, small shops, and charming temples.
It is so easy to explore the island on foot! you can be enjoying its scenic coastal paths, beaches, and fishing villages. Some of the must-visit attractions include the Peng Chau Heritage Trail, the Tin Hau Temple, and the Finger Hill. To get to Peng Chau, visitors can take a ferry from the Central Ferry Pier in Hong Kong Island or from the Cheung Chau Ferry Pier in the Outlying Islands.

Day trip in Peng Chau!
What a wonderful day trip in Peng Chau! Although a small island, there were lots of things to see such as that cute artsy junk yard, lots of cafes to try out, and most importantly nice quiet beaches to chill at.

Many people's impressions of Hong Kong are mostly shopping, shopping and food. In fact, there are countless outlying islands in Hong Kong. There are so many beautiful people here. Everything is quiet and beautiful outside of the hustle and bustle. Today, we recommend Hong Kong. Peng Chau Island.
There is no net red punching place here, so we avoid tourists and embarrassment. Everything on the island is like the old days of Hong Kong reappearing. In the quiet sea of summer, the old houses and the roads are telling the past. Pengzhou Island also has a great sea view and you can see a beautiful sunset. Pengzhou Island is very small, no map is needed, and one afternoon, stop and go, it is enough.
[How to get there] Go to Hong Kong, take the subway to Central Station, and follow the signs to the Central Pier. Pengzhou Island is to take the boat at Pier 6.
[Boat problem] The journey from Central to Pengzhou Island is about 30 minutes, about 30 minutes.

A Day In Peng Chau Island
My friend invited me to explore this bike-only island, accessible via a 30 minute ferry trip from Central Pier No. 7.
We took pictures at the displays around the abandoned Leather Factory. We checked out shops and went near the beach. There's a temple at the shore.
We ate lunch at a cha chaanteng that opened in 1970. After that, we hiked Finger Hill and saw Lamma Island from the peak. We also passed by the cemetery and some houses.
As we waited for our ferry ride, we just ate ice cream near the pier.
Overall, it was a relaxing experience. It was hot but breezy there.

Hong Kong Travel Snippets | Peng Chau Island
Peng Chau Island has been voted my favorite outlying island in Hong Kong
The hiking trails are not very long and not crowded
It's very healing to go to the island when you want to clear your mind
🗺️Recommended Check-in Spots
If you want to tour around more leisurely without checking every spot, you can just go to Finger Hill and Silvermine Bay Pavilion. The scenery along the way is already very nice, especially the trail to and from Silvermine Bay Pavilion, which is well marked, just follow the signs;
🌟Finger Hill
The trail is not long, and the elevation is only 95 meters. You can sit and rest in the pavilion at the summit and enjoy the view, which is very suitable for an overcast day;
🌟Silvermine Bay Pavilion
The path is very beautiful and photogenic, especially if you walk down the trail, there will be a small beach. If you go on a weekday, it's almost deserted, not only very photogenic, but also very pleasant to sit on the beach and enjoy the breeze;
🌟Gourmet
🥢Tea House Daruma
A small shop with seats both inside and outside, the roasted tea New York cheesecake is very fragrant and smooth, with a strong roasted tea flavor, and overall not too sweet, worth a try.
💡Tips
🌟Most of the outlying islands in Hong Kong still mainly accept cash, so it's best to prepare some cash in advance before you go;
🌟I personally recommend visiting Peng Chau Island when the weather is cool, as the island is mainly for hiking and sightseeing, and overcast days also have a great atmosphere;
🚌Transportation
Take the subway to Central Station Exit A, then walk along the footbridge to Pier No. 6 to take the ferry
(There are many ferries, with fast and slow ones alternating, the travel time difference between the two types of ferries is about 15 minutes, the slow ferry takes about 35 minutes to arrive)

Peng Chau: A Calm and Relaxing Island Day Trip.
Peng Chau is about a 30-40 minute ferry ride⛴️ from the city. Due to its small size, there are fewer tourists and residents compared to other outlying islands, giving the whole island a calm and relaxing atmosphere😌.
The main activity this time was hiking, starting from the pier along the sea, climbing up Finger Hill⛰️, with the endpoint being the East Bay Beach of Peng Chau🏝️. From the summit, one can gaze at the beautiful scenery of the nearby islands and the sight of fishing boats. Although the path has many stone steps, most of it is concrete, suitable for beginners. Following the hiking trail, one can reach East Bay Beach, where you can enjoy the sea breeze and experience the rare tranquility🥰.
After descending the hill, you can visit the island's unique restaurants and shops. This time, we visited the traditional cafe with over 40 years of history—Kee Sum Cafe, and ordered their most famous shrimp toast🍤 and red bean ice milk tea🧋. The shrimp toast lived up to its reputation. The outer layer of bread was fried to a crispy perfection, while the inside was filled with fresh and juicy large shrimp. With each bite, the sweetness of the shrimp and the aroma of the bread intertwined in the mouth, leaving a lasting impression😋.
The red bean ice milk tea is also one of their signatures, with a rich aroma of milk and tea, as well as the sweet taste of red beans, each sip made me feel the coolness and rich fragrance, especially refreshing and pleasant after hiking😎.
⛴️Transportation: Take the ferry from Central Pier No. 6, with the ordinary ferry taking 40 minutes and the fast ferry taking 30 minutes.
🍽️Restaurant: Kee Sum Cafe
📍Restaurant Address: Shop B, G/F, 3 Wing On Street, Peng Chau

Hong Kong Travel | Off-the-Beaten-Path Island Tour - Peng Chau
Hong Kong travel is not only about visiting famous spots in the main urban areas. In fact, there are many beautiful islands around it, where you can find the kind of surprising beauty. Generally, you can complete a walk around the island, and there are plenty of places along the way to take beautiful photos, many of which look like scenes from idol dramas. Near the Central Station subway exit, there is a ferry terminal, ☝️ with daily boats to the surrounding islands, offering both regular and fast services, with varying travel times to each island, roughly between 20-45 minutes. Before you set out, pay attention to‼️:
🌍 Check the 24-hour weather forecast ☁️ in advance
🕤 Take a photo of the ferry's timetable 📖 before getting on and off
🧩 Apply sunscreen!!! Bring sunglasses, seasickness medicine (as a precaution, the waves can be bigger when the weather is bad), a pair of comfortable sports shoes (most of the island is more interesting on foot, but you can also rent a bicycle), and cash (as a backup);

Pingshou Island weekend travelogue
Peng Chau Island is a small island located in the eastern part of Lantau Island in Hong Kong. From Central to Lantau Island, there are several ferries that pass through the island towards Mui Wo. In addition, there are also hovercrafts that go directly to Mui Wo and connect with the island. Because there are no beaches or tourist attractions, there are hardly any vacationers visiting the island. Therefore, it is exceptionally quiet.
On the west side of the island, there is a ferry terminal that comes from Hong Kong Island. Near the terminal, there is the only shopping street on the island, which is very narrow and can only accommodate two people walking side by side. It is about 500 meters long and both sides are meat shops and grocery stores. People who want to experience the local atmosphere can take a walk there. There is a small Tin Hau Temple in the middle of the street. There is no complete restaurant on the island, so it is difficult to find a place to eat. However, you can buy some fish from the fishermen at the pier on the way to the Hei-Tak Community and enjoy them at Sun Kwong Restaurant.
On the island, there is a 200-year-old Tin Hau Temple and a romantic fishing port. Here, you can appreciate the scenery, enjoy nature, and experience a unique flavor.
