Address:

Ambiance:
The newly renovated food court was situated just beside the Tua Pek Kong temple. It had a good mix of modern and old interior, and it managed to capture the retro chinese vibes they were looking for!
To be honest, there weren't much food stalls available yet so there weren't plenty of choices available for us to try. Some food we ordered wasn't as tasty as well but we are sure it'll be better as time goes by!
Pricing:
Slightly higher than the usual hawker centres, but still not bad.

Nestled in the heart of Bukit Mertajam, Pek Kong Cheng isn’t just a temple—it’s a cultural gem that’s stood the test of time. This iconic spot is steeped in tradition, with its roots tracing back over a century. The temple serves as a spiritual hub for locals and an irresistible magnet for foodies, thanks to the vibrant hawker stalls lining its perimeter.
Food Heaven by the Temple 😋✨
If you love authentic street food vibes, the bustling stalls at Pek Kong Cheng will steal your heart—and your appetite! As the aroma of sizzling woks and simmering soups fills the air, you’ll find endless options to tantalize your taste buds. During my visit, I couldn’t resist diving into two local delicacies:

Pek Kong Cheng
#travellerswonderland
This is a food court situated just beside an ancient Chinese temple in Bukit Mertajam. They have both day and night sessions. There are many varieties of food to choose from. They are the usual fare in Malaysian Chinese food courts - curry mee, koay teow thng, fried noodles, and even koay chup.
I tried several types of food. The white curry mee is good. The koay chup is also very good but a bit too peppery. The char koay kak is excellent. The place is always crowded. The public toilets are very clean.

I visited Bukit Mertajam Tua Pek Kong Temple, situated on Jalan Pasar in the heart of Bukit Mertajam, Malaysia. This temple, established in 1879 by Hakka settlers, originally venerated the Tua Pek Kong deity, known locally as Thai Pak Kong. Over time, it expanded to include Xuan Wu and other deities, becoming a focal point for the community's spiritual and cultural life.
The temple played a crucial role in the town's development, serving as a center for social gatherings and educational initiatives. In 1895, it founded Yi Xue Tang, an educational institution aimed at preserving Chinese culture and uplifting the community. This institution later evolved into Jit Sin Primary School, leaving behind a legacy of educational excellence.
Tragically, on July 3, 2019, a fire originating from the adjacent food court engulfed the temple, causing severe damage. While the blaze destroyed much of the temple's structure and artifacts, meticulous restoration efforts ensued, leveraging detailed documentation of the temple's dimensions and imagery. Despite the setback, the temple was rebuilt with the retention of its original walls and pillars, thanks to the collaboration between local architects and artisans from China. Additionally, the adjacent hawker center underwent upgrades, showcasing the resilience of the community and the enduring cultural significance of the temple.

Very nice
Very nice place for food. Variety of choices for you to chooose. Worth visiting, it’s just right beside a temple. The curry mee is nice, make sure to try it, but the parking and traffic is crazy, so if you are driving, try to car pool or take grab. Else jus haad to stuck at the jam and rounding few rounds for parking. Go there early to avoid the jam if possible! Overall, worth visiting
