September 16, 2024 Day 26: Sailimu Lake-Guozigou Bridge-Horgos About 2 kilometers from the south gate of Sailimu Lake is the Guozigou Archway and Guozigou Bridge Observation Deck, the first sight in Ili. You can go down to the bottom of the valley along the road and look up at the entire bridge. Horgos Port is the starting and ending point of the Yiho Railway, the Lianhuo Expressway, the 312 National Highway and the China-Central Asia Natural Gas Pipeline. In the National Gate Cultural Exhibition Hall, you can learn about the design and changes of the National Gate over several generations; learn about the historical stories of the capital of Alimari, Princess Xijun, and Zeng Jize seeking food from a tiger's mouth. On the left hand side after exiting the museum, there is stone tablet No. 18 of the Qing Dynasty, the first national gate in the west - 324 (1) boundary monument. You can only view it from a distance in the direction of the boundary monument, and you cannot take pictures. The Central Asian Style Street Old Hui Braised Subs, Pickled Cabbage Vermicelli Pork, Dry Stir-fried Noodles, etc. are light and delicious, fragrant but not spicy. Day 27 (September 17): Horgos The China-Kazakhstan International Cooperation Center Scenic Area consists of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Center, the National Gate Scenic Area, and the Central Asian Style Street. Century-old Port - Horgos Horgos, in Mongolian means 'a place where camel caravans pass through', is located at the westernmost edge of Yili Prefecture in Xinjiang, bordering Kazakhstan. The Horgos Port has been established since 1881 and has experienced more than a century. The national gate scenic area here should be the fourth generation of ports, but it still retains its sanctity and majesty, especially the boundary monument, which inspires intense passion and pride. Walking through the exhibition hall, what you see is not just images and text, but profound history, worthy of remembrance by each of us! When traveling in the beautiful Xinjiang, we should not only visit Kanas, Sayram Lake, and Nalati Grassland, but also make a trip to this port scenic area! Note: Retired military personnel with identification are admitted free of charge.

Our first stop in Xinjiang was Sayram Lake and the National Gate Scenic Area. Departing from the downtown area of Yining, we enjoyed the scenery along the way to Sayram Lake, passing through the Guozigou Bridge, seeing snow-capped mountains and grasslands, and for the first time truly felt what it means to be in the vastness of nature, how could our mood not be exhilarated? In the Sayram Lake Scenic Area, a small car took us around the lake (about 80 kilometers), for a 360° tour, where the lake water showed different colors from different angles, from green to sparkling to light blue and then to deep blue. The surrounding landscape was also diverse, with grasslands, snow mountains, hills, and horses and cattle either leisurely or cheerfully running. There were also the impressive sights of female park rangers riding by on horses. On the way back, we admired the Guozigou Bridge from a viewing point on the side. Afterwards, we arrived at the Horgos Port of Entry, where we looked at Kazakhstan from the border fence. This port is also the place where Zhang Qian of the Western Han dynasty passed through on his mission to the Western Regions. There is an exhibition hall in the scenic area that explains the local history, and there are models of the six generations of national gates, which are worth visiting.
