This is a town forgotten by time, hidden in the quaint and tranquil deep mountains, and it is also the only surviving ancient market on the Tea Horse Road.
-
Here, the most original architectural features are preserved, with long and long bluestone roads, and simple and kind folk customs.

Come to Dali Shaxi Ancient Town, be a passerby on the Tea Horse Road in the forgotten time.

✅During the peak season, be sure to book in advance, otherwise the rooms will be tight

The century-old mansion 'Ouyang Courtyard'
The ancient Bai ethnic mansion in Shaxi, a 'five-star horse inn' on the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
The most impressive thing about Shaxi is the century-old mansion 'Ouyang Courtyard' next to Sideng Street, which was also a five-star horse inn on the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
It was my first time seeing an ancient building in the Bai ethnic style. With a layout of three rooms and one screen wall, and a compound with four sides and five courtyards, it is spacious and grand. The main gate of the courtyard is luxuriously designed, with beautifully carved beams and painted rafters.
The main hall of the courtyard has a plaque that says 'Xiujie Luling', and the owner of Ouyang Courtyard originally moved from Ji'an, Jiangxi. Starting as a stableman, he gradually became the wealthiest horse dealer in Shaxi ancient town. The decoration of Ouyang Courtyard, which combines calligraphy and painting, also mixes the styles of the Han and Bai ethnic groups.
Looking at the simple and grand Ouyang Courtyard in front of me, I can almost imagine the bustling and lively scene on the Ancient Tea Horse Road a hundred years ago, with endless streams of horse caravans and merchants.
