Historic buildings
Ouchi-juku still retains the style of the Edo period (1603-1867), and the village is full of thatched houses. In 1981, it was selected as a preservation area for important traditional buildings of the country. At present, there are 50 straw-roofed houses lined up at both ends of the street about 300m from Ouchi-juku, each of which runs souvenir shops, restaurants, and family hotels. You can also see people washing vegetables in the canals in front of their houses in summer, and spreading the harvested rice ears on both sides of the street to dry in autumn. Experience the local folk customs of Japan.

Fukushima Day Trip @ Aizu Crane Castle, Ouchi-juku
The trip came to day three, a day trip to Fukushima. The onion soba noodles that were previously introduced on TV to Fukushima's must-eat Ouchi-juku, replaced chopsticks with onions, which is both unique and interesting.
However, tried to know just greedy play, first with the onion white position to wrap the noodles is very difficult, second is not actually bite down the onion is no special onion flavor, and a bite open the onion is very Choking, I could eat spicy myself, but later gave up and used real chopsticks instead.
After visiting the historic thatched houses in Ouchi-juku, the next stop is one of Fukushima Prefecture’s important landmarks: Tsuru Castle. Tsuru Castle is one of the top 100 famous cities in Japan, also known as "Aizu Castle" or "Aizu Wakamatsu Castle". The biggest feature is the roof, which is decorated with bright red tiles. Now the original castle building has been damaged in the previous wars, now see the castle castle is rebuilt in the style, and reinforced concrete to restore the exterior, so the interior and exterior will be more in line with modern needs. The museum houses the Wakamatsu Castle Tenshoku Pavilion Museum, where you can log on to the top of the castle and overlook the entire Aizu Wakamatsu area after purchasing a ticket.

Gassho Village in Northeastern Japan Full of Edo Style
Ouchi-juku is located in Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan. It is a post town that retains the charm of Japan's Edo period. There are up to 30 private houses with thatched roofs lined up in Ouchi-juku. Each thatched roof is intact, and the roads, bridges and streams are trickling. It is like walking to the Edo period. Since it is not easy to get there, it is recommended that self-drivers visiting Tohoku Japan arrange to visit Ouchi-juku Gassho Village.

Must-eat food: Ouchi-juku Misawaya
Shopping Guide: Fanwu Branch
#foodie is one of the three major thatched cottage settlements in Japan. It is a post station built around 1643. Because it is located on the Aizu Nishi Street connecting Aizu Wakamatsu and Nikko Imaichi, it was an important passage for people from the Northeast to go to Nikko and Edo in the Edo period. . Ouchi-juku was a prosperous town that provided food and rest for princes, merchants, and travelers at that time. It is said that Toyotomi Hideyoshi also stayed here. During the Meiji period, the main roads were replaced by railways, and Ouchi-juku fell into silence. Only the thatched buildings from that time have been preserved to this day. In 1981, it was selected as a nationally important traditional building preservation area under the category of a shukuba town. The traditional Japanese architecture that retains its historical features has a unique and simple charm, allowing you to experience the style of the Edo period. Arriving at Ouchi-juku, you can see orderly thatched-roof buildings on both sides of the road, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the antique streets. In winter, the snow-covered streets of Ouchi-juku add a touch of fairy tale color and are extremely romantic. #####

Last week's flash trip 🇯🇵 Fukushima Prefecture, I came to the famous attraction "Ouchijuku". I didn't eat the famous onion 🍜 soba noodles, but found a hipster Cafe ✨ split family Yu や.
This shop is also in the shape of a thatched-roofed house🛖, with many locations inside, and the furnishings are warm and stylish✨
We ordered the just-in-season chestnut Mont Blanc cake 🌰 and hot coffee ☕️.
The cutlery🍴 are very nice and textured, and we chose the window location, just facing the blooming red leaf tree🍁, especially pleasing to the eye, so it is a plus🫶🏻
Chestnut Mont Blanc🍰 has layers, the outer layer of chestnuts is fluffy and prominent, plus the crispy egg white cream and chocolate crisps match well, there is also a layer of chestnut puree inside, which makes the taste richer✨, with coffee is really refreshing!

Ouchi-juku
Today, we visited Edo Castle, famous for its noodles... The straight street of Ouchi-juku is not long, and both sides are lined with historical thatched houses. Inside, shops sell unique local products and small items. At the end of the street, if you follow the steps of the shrine on the left and go up, you can overlook the entire Ouchi-juku from the highest point, as if you have entered a time tunnel! After leisurely strolling around, head to Misawaya at the entrance to try the highly recommended hand-made green onion soba noodles. While enjoying the delicious food, looking out from the thatched house at the tourists coming and going on the street is quite an interesting experience!

Ouchi-juku, where the old-fashioned streetscape of a post town remains
I went to Ouchijuku, where the old-fashioned streetscape of a post town remains!
Unfortunately, it was raining, but the atmosphere was great even then...!
I was thinking about ordering the famous negi soba in Ouchijuku, but I heard that this restaurant has a lot of mochi and is delicious, so I decided to go for the warm soba noodles with grated daikon radish and mochi♪
Parking was 500 yen if you could park nearby, and 400 yen if you used the temporary parking lot!
We arrived in about 40 minutes by car, taking a quick look at Tsuruga Castle in Aizuwakamatsu!

Ouchijuku flourished as a post town during the Edo period✨
Even today, thatched-roof houses line the roads, retaining the appearance of the Edo period, and people live here as stores and residences to preserve this scenery🏡
It has also been designated as a "Nationally Designated Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings," and there is even a resident charter to preserve this scenery for the future.
They are all working to preserve the landscape and learn and pass on the traditional "roofing" techniques by following the three principles of "don't sell, don't rent, don't destroy" 💡
Ouchijuku is famous for "Negi Soba" which is made with green onions. You can eat it at various restaurants, so try looking for your favorite 💭

💡Point💡☑︎The streetscape lined with thatched roofs makes you feel like you've traveled back in time👏
☑︎Inside the exhibition hall, you'll find a world of Japanese houses that seem like they came out of a Japanese folk tale! It was cold, so we warmed ourselves by the hearth.

A historic post town: Ouchi-juku
Ouchi-juku is a post town that still retains the streetscape of the Edo period.
On both sides of the road that connected Aizu and Nikko, known as the Shimotsuke Kaido,
thatched-roof houses lined the streets,
and played an important role as a post station for feudal lords and travelers heading to Edo.
Ouchi-juku is lined with old thatched-roof houses on both sides of the road.
It flourished as a post town on the Aizu Nishi Kaido, which runs from Nikko to Aizu,
and in the Edo period it was an important route for sankin-kotai (alternate attendance) and for transporting rice to Edo.
The scenery is reminiscent of old Japan and is very atmospheric!

Ouchi Juku Old Village
Ouchi-juku is a former post town established around the 17th century and also registered as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings by the Japanese government. The streets lined with thatch-roofed houses are reminiscent of the Edo period , and displays showing the details of life in those times down to the utensils and hearths help visitors imagine what life was like during its heyday.
It's a sort of japanese postal or post town of the olden days. Basically a pit stop for merchants, travellers, nomads of the Edo period in Japan.
Houses lined up on both sides of a wide street - mostly providing food and accommodation. Now serving as a tourist attraction, these houses are preserved as exhibits or converted into restaurants and souvenirs shops.
It's a pleasant sight, nothing more than that to be honest. The surrounding area is just a town neighborhood. It would probably be more of a spectacle in the winter.

Ancient folk houses in the snow country - Ouchi-juku, Fukushima Prefecture
📌 Fukushima Prefecture Ouchi-juku
📅 2019.12.28
It was my first time to go to Fukushima, but I only planned to stay in Fukushima for one day, so I chose the more famous Ouchi-juku among several attractions.
Ouchi-juku is probably the most inconvenient place to go to tourist attractions. I chose to stop at Aizuwakamatsu Station the night before, and this station is a bit far away from Fukushima Station.
It takes a few hours to get there from Aizuwakamatsu Station. When it comes to Ouchi-juku, I have to mention the soba noodles that are eaten with green onions as chopsticks. In fact, it's just ordinary soba noodles, but you don't eat it with chopsticks, and you can eat the green onions after eating.
As a child with a partial eclipse, of course I only ate the soba noodles. On the back hill of Ouchi Host Street, there are snow-covered roads and big trees. The road in front of you is only white and brown. It feels more like you are in a silver world than walking on an ordinary road.

A whole leek serves as a chopstick🥢 and can also be used as a condiment, so I ate soba while nibbling on the leek.
There were quite a few restaurants in Ouchijuku where you can eat negi soba, so I was wondering where to eat it.
The restaurant I went to this time was
"Honke Tamaya"
Shukugen Soba (Negi Soba) ¥1000
The interior of the restaurant, with its hearth and firewood, was calm and had a great atmosphere, like something out of a fairy tale🪵
The daikon radish and miso were simply delicious!
The negi soba, ancient rice inari, and ancient rice amazake were also delicious.

As it is designated as a nationally designated important traditional buildings preservation district, there is a principle of "not selling, not renting, not destroying." I learned about the efforts of the people who live here to protect the traditional scenery.
When I visited in mid-February, the whole place was covered in snow.
