I usually prefer to visit different places each time I travel, but this time, I want to go back to the same place again. It's a small fishing village in Fujian called Xiapu, where there's not much to do at night, but you won't feel bored. I planned to go at the beginning of 2024, but other things got in the way. Fortunately, I was able to visit Xiapu at the end of 2024! I would describe it as "small and beautiful." I regret that my photography skills aren't great, so I could only capture the beautiful scenery with my eyes. The homestays, scenery, and local customs all made for a satisfying trip. Since it was a short trip in winter, I didn't visit the Sijiao Islands, Mount Taimu, or Dayushan Island, but I did visit the other attractions. Day 1: Yangjiaxi, Rongfeng Park, Xiaohao Beach, Light and Shadow Walkway, Huazhu Sunrise No. 1 Viewing Point, Dongbi Day 2: Gaoluo Beach, Xiapu Donghai No. 1 Haiwei Viewing Platform (Haiwei Castle), Dajing Beach, Danwan Viewing Platform, Xiaojing Beach, Xiaoweidao Island, Shenjiang S Bay The weather was great, and there were few people traveling out of season. | It's not an exaggeration to call it the pinnacle of aerial photography. Over the years, I've been to Fujian four times, always wanting to visit Xiapu but never making it. This year, I finally fulfilled that wish and spent two days photographing in Xiapu. These nine photos were all taken in Xiapu. Compared to aerial shots of grand landscapes, I now find these small cultural scenes more intriguing. - 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ Harvesting Seaweed (Not Staged) Outside Xiaohao Beach, there are vast fields of seaweed. At sunrise, fishermen work amidst the interplay of light and shadow, creating a sense of harmony between man and nature. - 4️⃣5️⃣ Xiaohao Beach (Staged) On this tidal flat, there's a shallow water channel. When sunlight hits it, the textures look beautiful. Unfortunately, it was cloudy when I visited, so I couldn't capture it. However, the layered waves on a windy day turned out to be quite stunning. - 6️⃣ Nanwan Oracle Bone Script (Staged) An artificial scene, besides this "Oracle Bone Script," there are also colorful nets. However, the nets were damaged by a typhoon, so I didn't photograph them. This scene has a one-hour shooting window during high and low tides; otherwise, it's just water or mud. - 7️⃣ Repairing Fishing Nets (Not Staged) Xiapu has indoor setups for staged fishing net weaving, but you can occasionally find real scenes of net repair by the roadside. These can only be captured during the fishing season. - 8️⃣ Harvesting Oysters (Not Staged) A scene of oyster harvesting by the sea, captured by chance. - 9️⃣ Making Fish Sauce (Staged) A roadside fish sauce factory, where you might be lucky enough to capture workers laboring among the jars. - Overall, Xiapu does have some staged scenes, but there are also many authentic labor scenes. Different seasons and harvests offer different photo opportunities. Next time, I hope to capture scenes of drying kelp, seaweed, fish, clam harvesting, and net casting... -
