Osu Kannon is one of the three major Kannons in Japan. The library houses 15,000 ancient books, including copies of Kojiki, and is known as the "Three Books of Japan". The temple was originally located in Osu, Gifu. After Tokugawa Ieyasu built the castle in Nagoya in 1612, he sent someone to move the entire temple building to Osu. The surrounding towns and streets also became lively and developed into today's shopping districts. Therefore, Osu Kannon Temple has become a popular spot as the starting point for the development of Osu Shopping Street.
