Tokyo’s most popular eating street in Shinjuku 🍱🍢🍡
Tokyo, Japan us know for amazing night life, buzzing city street & bright lights on modern sky scrapers.
📍 Omoide Yokocho, a popular tourist spot, is a maze of narrow alleyways on the West Exit of Shinjuku Station. It has a unique atmosphere, which is in stark contrast to modern Shinjuku.
Also known as Memory Lane, Omoide Yokocho is has packed with Japanese historic eateries and buzzing with energy. Eating at skewers at small stalls or indulge in Japanese cuisine while hanging out with family & friends at alley way is definitely a different experience.
Do expect crowded especially during tourist seasons & dinner time.

Food heaven!
I was recommended by a friend to come here for their food, it's a street full of small local bar bites ( Yakitori, sashimi, beer and etc...) However, most of the stalls are quite similar, normally the locals will come here to chill.
Oh yea, and most of the stalls here got no proper seats, you might need to stand to drink beer and eat yakitori! 😋😋 Is a good experience as well, worth trying!

Getting lost in Omoide Yokocho
Imagine this: you step off the bustling, modern streets of Shinjuku and into a narrow, winding alley. The air is thick with the delicious aroma of grilling meat, the sounds of sizzling skewers, clinking glasses, and lively chatter. Overhead, strings of lanterns cast a warm, inviting glow, illuminating the weathered wooden stalls that line the lane. These aren't fancy restaurants; they're tiny, intimate spaces, often seating only a handful of patrons at a counter.#omoideyokocho

The memorial night out at Omoide street
#getgoing2025
An area lined with old-fashioned bars, about a 3-minute walk from the west exit of Shinjuku Station. There are about 80 shops in the area that serve delicious alcohol and food. There are many teneya-style shops that separate the shop and the walls of the store by a single door board, which gives a retro atmosphere.Around 1947, Shinjuku was a transit point for transportation from that time and flourished as a terminal for the distribution of people and goods.

Come relax at Omoide Yokocho.
- Omoide Yokocho is a small alley with only izakaya on both sides, or Japanese-style restaurants. They focus on grilled food, small plates, and go well with beer, liquor, and other things.
- Each restaurant is small, and there aren't many seats. Some restaurants have a second floor, but we sat on the first floor and enjoyed watching the chefs cook.
- Most of the food is grilled on skewers. We ordered three types of grilled food, and everything was delicious. The restaurant we went to also had an appetizer, which was like glass noodles mixed with seaweed. It was so delicious that light came out of our mouths.
- Each skewer costs around 150-200 yen. The beer we had was around 650 yen per glass. We went to enjoy the atmosphere.
- The restaurant charges 330 yen per person to sit.
- We also stopped by a ramen restaurant that seemed to be an old restaurant there. There are about 3 menus at the ramen shop. The price is very cute. Each bowl is only 490-510 yen. You get so much that you almost can't finish it.
I highly recommend it. If you go to Shinjuku, stop by and have a fun time. The food is delicious and the photos are beautiful.
How to get there: Take the subway or JR and get off at Shinjuku Station. Take the West Exit.

Omoide Yokocho
Beautiful place! I always dreamed to visit this little spot. It's super crowded, of course, but it totally worth it.
I would say that a "con" is that most of restaurants serve yakitori, (and most of them are full), but it make sense, it should be "Sit, live the experience, leave your spot to next customer".
Food are good quality and prices are average.
In 2024 I wish to visit this place again.

Night out at Tokyo's traditional alleyways
#tokyotrip
The famous Omoide Yokocho
When to go? 8pm-early morning
Location: West Side of Shinjuku Station
Omoide Yokocho is a cramped space where you see rows of tiny restaurants, some of them just with a counter, some of them with only a couple of tables. There is not much space to walk in these narrow alleys, you better bring a small bag with you. There are seafood and grilled meat - the grilled chicken has many different parts available, kushiyaki food on sticks, ramen noodles, etc. In winter, you may enjoy oden (food in hot broth).
The prices are cheap and you can eat quickly. You can also have a bite here and there to try different foods but the places being really packed you may be unable to find a seat at another restaurant.
Note: Bring cash, not credit card

We acciden
We accidentally found this beautiful alley Omoide Yokocho while strolling around shinjuku, the place is known to be called Memory Lane, popular name to tourist is PISS ALLEY because back in the days this alley had no toilet so drunk men pissed anywhere. If you like to drink while eating grilled meat on a stick cooked in charcoal (yakitori) this is the place. #wintergetaway
