Old Hill Street Police Station is one of the distinctive buildings in Singapore, with more than 900 colorful windows that are particularly eye-catching. Balconies, columns, shutters and gables complement each other, showing a neoclassical architectural style. Today, it has become a place for many photographers to take pictures, and it is also a place for various exhibitions, performances and commercial activities in Singapore. The Old Hill Street Police Station was built in 1934. At the time of its completion, it was a relatively large building and was considered a modern skyscraper. It was named a National Monument by the press in 1998, then served as an office building for MICA, and was renamed the Old Hill Street Police Station in 2012. The building has a total of 927 windows in a rainbow of dazzling colors. The windows on the first four storeys have the same intensity of color, and the fifth and sixth storeys are progressively darker to accentuate the cantilevered terraces, all of the striking features of the historic building that amaze visitors to the site. Before the construction of the Old Hill Street Police Station, it was an auditorium with public functions, and between 1845 and 1856 it also served as a theatre and a school. The main courtyard, formerly a police training ground, has been transformed into an ARTrium, which is air-conditioned and suitable for large-scale visual art exhibitions and performing arts events.
