It's a little far from central Sapporo, about a 30-minute drive, but I've always wanted to go to Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, so I went there! The jump platform was higher than I expected and was a spectacular sight. We took the lift that is actually used by ski jumpers to the top. It was a lot of fun! This is a stadium used for ski jumping. We took the ski lift up to the top of the jump and there is a look out tower. The jump is about 300 meters above sea level. You can see the panoramic view of downtown Sapporo from the top. We came in the evening and the lights of the city was amazing. It was cold and windy at the top but well worth the experience. The ski jump is open to the public on days when competitions and official practices are not being held, and visitors can ascend to the peak of the mountain on the double lift. There, they can experience the unimaginable steep approach and the intensity of the sport while also enjoying spectacular scenery. #givethanks #givethanks

Okurayama was the site of the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, and from the top of the ski jump you can see the whole of Sapporo city. From the observation lounge at the starting point of the ski jump at an altitude of 307m, you can see Odori Park stretching out directly in front of you, and you can see many landmarks. It is also attractive to be able to see the same view from the perspective of a ski jumper. The Sapporo Olympic Museum is also inside. (7th and 8th photos) The director of this museum is actually a former athlete who participated in the Sapporo Olympics! You can see the actual sports equipment used and trace the history and trajectory of the sport. The view from Sapporo Okurayama Observatory is spectacular! From the observation deck at the top of the lift, you can see the whole of Sapporo city, and the snowy scenery is especially beautiful in winter ⛄. At the top of the "Okurayama Observation Lift" is an observation deck where you can see the whole of Sapporo, which has been selected as one of the "New Top Three Night Views of Japan"! The Sapporo Olympic Museum is also located inside the stadium, where you can learn about the history of the Sapporo Winter Olympics through displays of valuable materials, equipment of athletes who have competed in past Winter Olympics, and medals and photos from each tournament. Never taken a ski lift, you can do so at Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium! This is not what you only get, you also get a view Sapporo city once you get to the top of the Ski Jump Stadium. There is cafe selling ice cream and snacks at the top of the stadium. This venue held the ski jumping events of Sapporo Olympic Winter Games in 1972. At the bottom, there is a museum provides the information about the Olympics and Paralympics through exhibitions of precious historical materials, such as equipment used by actual athletes. If you are hungry, there is a cafe and restuarant at the Annex. Don't forget to pick your souvenir at the shop before you leave! Getting There - Car or take subway to Maruyama Koen station along Tozai line, then board Kuramaru-go bus at berth 4 of the bus terminal. Please note the bus runs once every hour. I've been to Sapporo countless times, but surprisingly, this was my first time here. The jump with a maximum gradient of 35 degrees and a K-point of 123 meters is also where the term "Hinomaru Hikotai" (Japanese flying squadron) was born. The angle is frightening from the observation deck, but the level jumpers soared one after another. As an aside, 35 degrees is almost the same as the maximum gradient of the bank at Odawara Keirin Stadium (^_^;) #SapporoTourism #OkurayamaSkiPitchArea
