[Shizuoka] A station with a spectacular view that I definitely want to visit someday
Visited in September 2023
*Okuoi Kojo Station
Umeji, Kawane-cho, Shizuoka Prefecture
"Okuoi Kojo Station" looks like a small station floating in the middle of a lake surrounded by mountains
It won the Cool Japan Award 2019 and is a spot that has become increasingly popular in recent years✨
It is located on a peninsula-like area that juts out from the left bank of the dam lake that was created with the construction of Nagashima Dam☺️
On both sides of the peninsula, the Minami Alps Abt Line (Ikawa Line)'s iron bridge, the Okuoi Rainbow Bridge, is built, making it a very mysterious station that looks as if it is floating on the lake✨
The Ikawa Line, commonly known as the Minami Alps Abt Line, operated by Oigawa Railway, connects the 25.5 km between Senzu Station and Ikawa Station, and a small red trolley train leads you to the hidden area of Okuoi😊
It is a hidden station that you will want to visit at least once🎵

[Shizuoka Prefecture] A hidden station with a spectacular view floating in the middle of a lake!
This time, we will introduce a station that is not so easy to get to. In the middle of a lake surrounded by mountains, we will introduce "Okuoikojo Station", a small floating station that looks like it came out of Ghibli.
This is located upstream of the Oi River in Shizuoka Prefecture. It is located in the middle of the emerald green ✨ lake where Nagashima Dam is located, and it won the "Cool Japan Award" in 2019. In recent years, it has been introduced on SNS and has become a spot that is rapidly gaining popularity.
There is also a parking lot 🅿️ near the station's spectacular photo spot, and there is a place where you can take a picture of the whole station and Rainbow Bridge 🌉. Plus, it is recommended to take a picture when the train 🚃 is passing by 😊
㊙️ The train that runs here was amazing, so I will explain it. Commonly known as the "Abt system railway", it is a railway for steep slopes that uses rack rails called toothed rails to go up and down steep slopes. The section on which this train runs from Abt Ichishiro Station to Nagashima Dam Station on the Oigawa Railway is the steepest slope in Japan, and it is the only Abt system railway in Japan! ️
At the station, there is a promenade next to the bridge tracks 🛤️, and you can cross the bridge to get to the station. There are also love spots and cafes ☕️ at the station, making it a place where you can relax and enjoy the spectacular views.
It's nice to drive there in a car, but I think it would also be nice to take the Oigawa Railway to Okuoikojo Station and enjoy the scenery. Why not take a trip to this remote station?
I would be happy if you have any thoughts or information about this "Okuoikojo Station"☺️👍

Starry sky train
Encircled by the mountains of Kawane-cho, the town with the second most beautiful starry sky in Japan, the mysterious Okuoi Lakeside Station sits quietly on the lake. There are no lights from the houses around, and a special train runs to Lakeside Station at night, where the clear night sky is decorated with twinkling stars.
Starry sky train special ticket
Adults (junior high school students and above): 1,940 yen / Children: 970 yen
*You cannot get on or off at any station other than Senzu Station. One-way rides from Okuoi Lakeside to Senzu are not available.

[Shizuoka🇯🇵] A floating station on a lake🚉
A station floating on an emerald green lake in a small town called Kawane-cho.
It's one of the top 5 recommended spots in Shizuoka Prefecture!
As shown in the first photo, I recommend going to the Okuoi Lakeside Station Observatory first and enjoying the panorama✨
Since you're here, check the train times in advance and take a photo of the moment the train arrives at the station.
I was lucky to arrive at a time when the train was passing by✌️
After that, you can walk along the tracks, so try going to the island where the station is!
It's a good idea to stop by Kawane Onsen on your way back♨️

A station floating on a dam lake in Kawanehon-cho, deep in the mountains of Shizuoka Prefecture
It's been featured on TV recently, so it's very popular
The Abt train used to get there
The contrast between the emerald green and bright red bridge and the train is very nice
[What is the Abt system?]
The Abt system is a type of railway system (rack railway) invented by Karl Roman Abt for climbing steep slopes. Rack railways began to be used in Switzerland and the United States around 1869, and have spread around the world, and now Swiss tourist railways are world famous. Currently, the only place in Japan where you can ride this Abt system train is the Oigawa Railway's Minami Alps Abt Line. Abt system locomotives have a gear called a "pinion gear" that is specially designed for hills, and they go up and down the slope by engaging with a toothed rail called a "rack rail" laid in the middle of the track.

[Shizuoka Prefecture] 📍Okuoikojo Station
🚃Okuoikojo Station
📍Location: Inuma, Kawane-cho, Haibara-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, 428-0402
This is an area located deep in the mountains, even within Shizuoka Prefecture. There is also a train called the Oigawa Railway, a slightly retro Thomas the Tank Engine train.
The red train is impressive and very retro.
If you get off at this station, there is a cafe on the mountain side, and the view from there is also spectacular.
Of course, it is easy to access by train, but if you are accessing by car, you can park in a nearby parking lot and walk here.
It may be better not to go on rainy days as it can be slippery.
The view from the observation deck (just a road) is amazing!
Next time I would like to take the train and visit during the autumn leaves season.
Please come and visit us!

A hidden station with a spectacular view floating on an emerald green lake
#Travelwithme
I took a bus tour and got off at Oigawa Railway's steam locomotive at Senzu Station, where I walked along the side of the tracks and did a little mountain climbing to the observation deck, enjoying the spectacular view.
The station was built because of a dam lake, and is not connected to the road, so you can only get to the station by taking a train or walking along the side of the tracks.
It seems to be often featured on TV, but I went there without knowing anything about it, so I was moved by the beauty of the emerald green lake and mountains.
The observation deck is a 15-minute walk from the station, up a steep staircase, so you need to be physically fit, but the view from there makes the effort worth it.
It also won the COOL JAPAN AWARD 2019, and it seems to be becoming more well-known, so it seems to get crowded on weekends.

Oku-Oi Lake: A unique travertine wonder
#Japan and Korea's best spring destinations
Amid the ripples of Lake Okudajing, a large number of travertine reefs on the lake bottom immediately emerged from the lake surface. These bizarre travertine rock formations of various shapes rise from the ground like strange rock trees, arranging on the lake surface to form a unique underwater forest landscape.
What is most amazing is the crystal clearness and gorgeous colors of these travertine rocks. The colorful rock formations sparkle under the reflection and refraction of the lake water, which is beautiful beyond words.
Being in such a natural wonderland and enjoying the unique travertine spectacle, my heart was shocked like never before, as if I were in a wonderland of beauties. This unique visual spectacle is the main reason why I come here again and again to appreciate it.

A train station on a cliff!
Okuoikojo Station is a stop on the Oigawa Railway Line, which runs through Shizuoka Prefecture. The station is located in the middle of a stunning emerald green lake, and looks as if it is floating on it. The red bridge spanning across the lake tops off the dreamy scenery. The unstaffed station is the ideal spot for sightseeing via one of Japan’s most treasured railways, especially considering the other nature hotspots in the area.
The View of the Lake Around the Station Was Awarded the “Cool Japan Award 2019”.
In 2024, I want to go to Shizuoka again.
