The ancient city is located in CarSamoil and was built in the second century BC. The city has many ancient buildings such as medieval churches, monasteries, frescoes, castles and towers. At one time there were 365 churches (more than 30 still remain), and people could go to different churches every day for worship, hence the name "Jerusalem of the Balkans". A towering ancient tree Cinar with a lifespan of 900 years is also witnessing the history of the ancient city. Ohrid was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1980.
