Beaches and shores

Located on the seaside of Ibaraki, along the coast of white sandy beaches, the beauty of pine forest stretches. The pine forest here began in the Edo period, and the Mito Tokugawa family, the successive feudal lords, carried out a tree planting business to protect the lives of their occupants by taking advantage of the beach, and managed the growth of pine trees. The far-shallow coast and crystal clear waters are popular for enjoying summer sea bathing here. From the Oarai coast to the south, the area around the brackish lake Kanama, where fresh water and sea water blend, has been designated as the Oarai Prefectural Natural Park. If you are lucky, you can also enjoy the beautiful sunrise and sunset.
