Whitehorse, Canada ~ The most economical semi-self-guided tour of the Aurora ~ Come and realize your lifelong dream
Many people dream of seeing the Northern Lights. It is said that seeing the Northern Lights can bring good luck, but few people can actually fulfill this life dream. The main problem is that the cost is too high. The Northern Lights was not in my life plan before, but after careful research, I found that it was not difficult. I spent a month doing homework and set off immediately!
First of all, the aurora usually appears in high latitudes, and must be close to the South Pole or the North Pole. I once tried to see the aurora in Tasmania, Australia, and observed the aurora index every day. Tasmania is the place closest to the South Pole, and many residents living in Tasmania have indeed seen the aurora, but for as long as a month, I did not see the aurora in Tasmania.
In addition to Tasmania in Australia, there are other places where you can see the aurora, such as Alaska, Finland, New Zealand, Canada, etc. After researching a lot of information, I decided to go to Yellowknife in Canada, where the probability of seeing the aurora is the highest. After all, in addition to the geographical location, the season, weather, aurora index, and light pollution all affect whether the aurora can be seen. It is rumored that you can see the aurora in Yellowknife for at least one day out of three days, but in the end it was discovered that due to the epidemic, Yellowknife was not open at the time. As a second choice, we chose Whitehorse, a place with a temperature of -20~-40 degrees all year round.
Whitehorse is a city in Canada and the capital of Yukon. It is named because the local rapids resemble the mane of a white horse. In order to save money, we booked our own tickets and found a local aurora tour. You can find a lot of information about Whitehorse aurora tours on the Internet. Because the weather was so cold, we also asked whether we would wait for the aurora indoors. During the five days we went to Whitehorse, we spent the night after nine in the warm room of the aurora cabin singing and eating snacks with other group members, waiting for the tour guide to notify us if there would be any aurora. Fortunately, we were able to see the aurora on two days out of the five days. When I saw the aurora and thought of my previous travel experiences, I didn’t expect that I could complete my life milestone ahead of time. I feel so lucky! Although the aurora can only be seen a little bit with the naked eye, it is clearer with a camera. I will publish the expenses of my trip later for your reference. Come and realize your own aurora dream!
