Chumphon, Thailand: What to do in this hidden gem?
📍Location:
Chumphon is located in Southern Thailand, facing the Gulf of Thailand. It's a relatively undiscovered destination, rarely visited by tourists, and retains a non-commercialized charm. Despite its low profile, it boasts a beautiful coastline, abundant marine resources, and is Thailand's second-largest durian growing region.
🦌Kiam Wooden Bridge
The Nong Yai Wooden Bridge spans the vast Monkey's Cheeks Reservoir, built in 1989 to prevent flooding in Chumphon. It's currently being developed into a tourist attraction (still under construction, with no commercial facilities yet). While the wooden bridge itself isn't particularly unique, the area is home to many deer and deer-themed elements. For just 20 baht, you can interact with these adorable creatures.
🚢Kao Matri View Point
This hilltop viewpoint offers stunning views of the floating houses at the mouth of the Chumphon River on one side and the stretching coastline on the other. Without excessive entertainment facilities, it's not exactly a "check-in" hotspot, but it's the perfect place to witness a beautiful sunset and enjoy a moment of tranquility.
💰Durian Orchard
Chumphon is a major durian-producing region in Southern Thailand, cultivating various durian varieties, primarily Monthong. We were fortunate enough to visit a durian orchard where the owner has over 500 decades-old durian trees laden with ready-to-harvest fruit. Thanks to the owner's hospitality, I tried durian for the first time. It was surprisingly good – no unpleasant odor, just a sweet, soft, and sticky delight!
🙋Overall, while Chumphon may not be a particularly well-known tourist destination, if you appreciate peace, quiet, and natural beauty, it's definitely worth considering.

Natural Attractions Near Chumphon City - Kheam Wooden Bridge
I had the chance to relax and took a train from Hat Yai to Chumphon
and visited the Kheam Wooden Bridge at Nong Yai, Chumphon.
It's very beautiful! The Kheam Wooden Bridge, which is very old, is over 400 meters long.
It's very beautiful, with a cool breeze. The sun is a bit strong, but there's a constant breeze.
I recommend going around 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM. This time is perfect for taking beautiful photos.
Nearby, there's also the Deer Viewing Bridge. You can walk across to it, as it's in the same area. Visiting here, you get to see two places in one trip:
both the Kheam Wooden Bridge and the Deer Viewing Bridge, where you can see rusa deer, chickens, and ducks.
You can also feed the deer. It's extremely beautiful and perfect for a family trip or a romantic outing. The photos turn out great. Highly recommended!

Check-in point in Chumphon
#Teamwood bridge #Chumphon monkey cheeks
Teamwood is a strong wood, resistant to both saltwater and freshwater.
And this bridge was built by the hands of only 7 people.
It took 45 days to complete. This bridge is like a symbol of unity and unity among the people of Chumphon.
In fact, the original bridge was made entirely of teakwood.
If it started to deteriorate, it was repaired.
So some steel bars were added, but most of it is still teakwood.
The length of the bridge is 290+ meters, S-shaped.
It probably means that there may be some obstacles, some twists.
Min thinks that if we work together, any obstacle can be overcome. ✌️
This bridge is just a little past the deer watching bridge. It is shady, peaceful, and very beautiful for taking pictures. The bridge also connects to the island in the middle of the water. There will be little chickens walking around. It's super chill. 😃

Teak Bridge
#summerdream Everyone here is a place to visit in Chumphon that you don't want to miss. The teak bridge is located in the Nong Yai Royal Project. It is over 300 meters long and connects to a small island. The bridge is made from teak wood, which is a hard wood that is abundant in the South. It is also resistant to both fresh and salt water, which is the origin of the name of the bridge. Let me tell you that taking pictures here is great. I've been there before and it's really good. But it's hot. If you want to go and it's not too hot, you might want to choose the evening. I recommend coming to visit here. Teak Bridge
