[Tokyo] Nippara Cave - Perfect for the coming season
Once a mecca for mountain worship, it is now a particularly lively tourist spot in Nippara.
The door to the mysteries opens in Ogawadani, a tributary of the Nippara River. The inside of the cave, which is kept at 11 degrees Celsius throughout the year, is cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
It boasts the largest scale of the area in the Kanto region, and offers a fantastical landscape with the majestic Byakuro Kannon statue, Gama Rock reminiscent of a giant frog, and an open ceiling that seems to draw you into a place beyond time.
The new cave in particular is a different world, with magnificently grown stalagmites and numerous stone pillars standing in a multitude. This is the highlight of the approximately 40-minute tour of the cave. It takes 200 years for the icicle-like stalactites to grow 3 cm, and 400 years for the stalagmites to grow upwards. Please enjoy the mysteries of nature beyond your imagination to your heart's content.
Furthermore, in August 1996, a water chime was installed that produces natural sounds befitting a large palace, allowing visitors to enjoy elegant sounds in the solemn atmosphere of the limestone cave. ○ Admission fee (all prices are now 100 yen extra)
