Hey everyone, I finally visited Taipei, the city I've been dreaming of. This city, full of artistic atmosphere and lively street scenes, gave me so many surprises! I've organized a super detailed 5-day-4-night itinerary. Let's set off together and feel the charm of Taipei! Day 1: Taipei Main Station → Ningxia Night Market Upon arriving in Taipei, we went straight to Taipei Main Station, which is a transportation hub with super convenient transfers. After dropping off our luggage, we headed to Ningxia Night Market. The oyster omelette at the entrance was amazing, with big and fresh oysters wrapped in egg batter, paired with sweet and spicy sauce. One bite and the fresh flavor filled my mouth. Then we had a cup of bubble tea, with chewy pearls and rich milk flavor, capturing the authentic taste of Taiwan in an instant. Walking and eating, we felt so happy! Day 2: National Palace Museum → Shilin Official Residence → Shilin Night Market In the morning, we visited the National Palace Museum, which has a rich collection of artifacts. Must-see treasures include the Mao Gong Ding and the Jadeite Cabbage. I recommend hiring a guide to fully appreciate the historical significance behind the artifacts. In the afternoon, we went to the Shilin Official Residence, strolling through the gardens and enjoying a leisurely time. In the evening, we visited Shilin Night Market, where we had the famous Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken, crispy and delicious, with a super large size that was very satisfying. The herbal pork rib soup was rich and warming. Day 3: Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall → Yongkang Street → Xinyi District In the morning, we went to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to watch the changing of the guard ceremony, feeling the solemn atmosphere. Then we headed to Yongkang Street, which has many artistic shops. Don't miss the mango shaved ice, with large chunks of mango on top of the ice, sweet and refreshing. In the evening, we went to Xinyi District, a shopping paradise with all major brands. After shopping, we went to Din Tai Fung for soup dumplings, with juicy meat filling and thin skin, bursting with flavor in every bite. Day 4: Tamsui Old Street → Fisherman's Wharf In the morning, we went to Tamsui Old Street, with its historic charm. The local snacks like Ah Gei and iron eggs are must-tries. Day 5: Four Four South Village → Songshan Cultural and Creative Park In the morning, we checked out Four Four South Village, Taipei's first military dependents' village, full of nostalgic vibes, giving a glimpse into old Taipei life. In the afternoon, we went to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, with various exhibitions and creative shops, perfect for artistic youths to explore and take photos. A day of my solo trip in Taipei. Upon landing in Tao Yuan Airport, just head to the basement for the Express Train to Taipei main station (last station). Super easy and convenient! Will also recommend solo travellers to stay in this area, so you can easily do a day trip out of Taipei. I stayed at Meander 1948 Hostel and love the cleanliness of the space plus there’s the popular local Ningxia Night Market there too. Recommend to wake up early and head out for authentic Taiwan breakfast at their local joints. Fu Hang Soy Milk is worth checking out but be there before 9am else prepare for long queue~ After breakfast why not cross the road for a good cup of coffee at Simple Kaffe or explore Huashan 1914 Creative Park for the exhibitions #solotravel

Oyster omelet is one of the most delicious foods. In this Ningxia Night Market, there are many people waiting in line for this yellow-signed oyster omelet. In addition to selling oyster omelets, there are also fried rice and even sesame oil pork liver. It is great to eat in winter or summer. If you don’t come in winter, it’s really good to drink this soup in the cold weather. I recommend you to eat here or take it out.

I did a weekend trip in Taipei as my place of residence (Hong Kong) eased inbound travellers’ quarantine requirements. Not having travelled Taiwan for 3 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic felt surreal as it has always been my favourite destination for a short/weekend-trip. Unfortunately, the weather was bad throughout the trip – it was constantly raining. However, fortunately at night, the heavy rain stopped, and I could go out to the famous night markets such as Ningxia and Raohe. My favourite night market was Ningxia. Although it remained the same as three years ago, I could still see some changes – more varieties in food, especially Korean snacks. I felt like I was in my heritage home! After eating loads of food at the night market, I went straight to bed and woke up early the day after. I went out to see the Taipei 101 – the city’s one of the most famous landmarks. Unfortunately, the foggy weather did not allow me to oversee the entire building but at least, it was not crowded. Then I decided to go back to my hotel and pack up and left for Hong Kong. Although I could not do much outdoor activities due to the adverse weather conditions, I still enjoyed the trip. I cannot wait to go back again.

The tofu pudding I'm going to share with you today is located opposite the Ningxia Night Market. The shop is full of people and the environment is bright. What's special is that in addition to the basic tofu pudding, there are also some shaved ice products. The shaved ice products are a bit more expensive, so we chose almond cakes and lemon agar ice.
