Feel young in Hanling Old Street
Hanling Old Street is Ningbo’s best kept secret. Situated in the heart of Dongqian Lake, this beautiful village stands timeless. From Dongqian Lake subway station, we took a Didi which was about a 30 minute drive. There is also a bus stop nearby (bus 660). Some eateries are in the village- Ningbonese cuisine, Starbucks, Japanese and a variety of street food. There is not much to do in the area except for a walk along the lake at sunset, an art museum and visiting the old village itself. Take it easy and be relaxed. This is a place to re-energize those tired limbs.

Homestay recommendation.
A relaxing and beautiful place (Ningbo) || I've been to Hanling many times. Compared to other famous ancient streets in China, there's nothing particularly special about it. However, it's worth mentioning that Hanling Old Street is right across from the vast Dongqian Lake, and the art museum with its unique design is also worth a visit.
If you just want to relax, there's a great place to go: Hanling Flower Inn. It's not as high-end as the JUN across the street, but I personally recommend this one for two reasons:
First, the small courtyard is very characteristic of Jiangnan. When we arrived, it was drizzling, but it soon stopped. The weather was very comfortable, and you can sit in the courtyard during the day or at night, drink tea, chat, watch the boats in the lake, and see the old men speaking Ningbo dialect fishing by the lake. It's very relaxing. Hanling is the only place with a few rooms facing the lake and a small courtyard. If you want this kind of relaxation, you can give it a try.
Second, the room is a loft. You can drink tea and watch TV downstairs, and rest upstairs without disturbing each other. It's perfect for a family vacation. The only downside is that the soundproofing is average.
When you're hungry, take a walk on the old street. There are common snacks and some local Ningbo specialties. My family loves rice buns, and the freshly baked ones taste great.

Hey, I'm serious about the free stuff.
Hanling Old Street is a distribution center for Ningbo cuisine. Salt-baked potatoes, oil dumplings, and rice cake dumplings are popular snacks.
- Opening hours: Open all day, all year round.
- Ticket price: Free.
- Recommended duration: 1-2 hours.
Hanling Old Street is located in Hanling Village, Dongqian Lake Town, Yinzhou District, Ningbo. It is a well-preserved typical ancient village in Zhejiang, known as the "First Ancient Village in Zhejiang". It is worth a visit.

This café on Ningbo Hanling Old Street is really beautiful.
During the National Day holiday, I visited Hanling Old Street in Dongqian Lake, Ningbo. It was really crowded, so I could only sit in this café opened by the homestay I was staying in. The café is called Lanshan Coffee.
They not only serve guests staying in the homestay, but also the public. The café offers a variety of coffee, and the barista is very professional. The latte art is beautiful, the coffee is delicious, and the fat is quite rich.
In addition to coffee, the café also offers simple meals, cakes, etc. The grilled chicken wings are particularly delicious, so you must order this.
The environment in the café is very photogenic, especially when sitting by the floor-to-ceiling windows, you can take great photos.
You can visit this café when you visit Hanling Old Street.

Hanling Old Street offers a walk through history without the need for a reservation
The old street is divided into a front and a back section, running through the entire village. The front street, where the trade is concentrated, stretches over 500 meters and is further divided into lower, middle, and upper streets. The lower street has about thirty shops, with a stream flowing gently through the middle. Although the old street has changed from dark grey cobblestones to a concrete road, it still retains its appearance from hundreds of years ago, with grey tiles, white walls, and red-painted storefronts, one connected to another. Ancient place names like 'Bamboo Shed Root' and 'Firewood Yard' are still in use. The village's small sand well, with its water warm in winter and cool in summer and a hint of sweetness, is much loved by the villagers.💧
A stream also flows gently through the middle of the lower street, which used to be paved with dark grey cobblestones but is now a concrete road. The old street still maintains its centuries-old appearance, with uniform two-story buildings on both sides, grey tiles, white walls, and red-painted storefronts, stretching forward in a continuous line.
The village also has a small sand well, not very large, but the water is warm in winter, cool in summer, and slightly sweet, and the villagers still prefer to use the water from this well.
Recommended route:
Academician Center ➡ Limin Village ➡ Little Putuo ➡ Xiaoshui Wetland Park ➡ Mashan Wetland Park ➡ Hanling Old Street
I've personally walked this route, and it takes about half a day. You can also do it in reverse, but be mindful of the time.
Tips:
Hanling Old Street does not require an entrance fee or reservation.
Transportation is convenient, accessible by self-driving or public transport.
The recommended route covers several attractions, suitable for a half-day trip.

Only those from Ningbo can truly appreciate the millennia-old village of Dongqian Lake Hanling Old Street
During the Southern Song Dynasty, a chancellor once passed by and wrote: In the midst of the village named Hanling, the sounds of fishermen's songs and woodcutters' axes mingle. Thus, over 1140 years ago, this place was also called Hanling. It must be said, the name has a really unique ring to it.
As a half-Ningbo native, Hanling is also one of the must-visit places every time I go to Dongqian Lake. After much thought, this place can be considered the true scenic beauty of southern Yangtze River Delta. Compared to the bustling Nantang Old Street in the city center, it has more of the tranquility of the south.
Hanling has eighteen night sailing boats, which set sail from Hanling every evening, carrying goods and passengers, passing through Mozhi over the dam, heading to Ningbo, and returning the next day.
—Yinzhou Annals·Geography Records
Facing Dongqian Lake, Hanling was originally just an ancient village. Due to its special geographical location, it became a necessary passage for transporting goods to downtown Ningbo, gradually flourishing and also known as the number one ancient street in eastern Zhejiang. Today, the former prosperity is no longer seen here, and because it is located in Ningbo's backyard, Dongqian Lake, it is only slightly lively on weekends.
There are actually two old streets in Hanling, namely the front street and the back street, running through the entire village. The shops are all concentrated on the front street, which is the commercial part that has been renovated. The back street still maintains its original appearance, with uniformly two-story buildings. Many of the wooden low houses have been abandoned, and the further you go, the fewer people live there.
In fact, the water towns of Jiangnan, such as Shaoxing, Wuzhen, and Hangzhou, all rely on rivers, giving people a sense of small bridges over flowing water, and a gentle feeling. But Hanling, facing Dongqian Lake, always seems a bit more majestic.
✔️Finally, let's talk about the Hanling Art Museum at the entrance of the old street, designed by Kengo Kuma. It has been built for several years now, and I don't know when the interior will be completely finished and open. Every time I come to Dongqian Lake, I can only take a photo on the side. I think this is probably something all Ningbo people are looking forward to.
🌈If you are visiting Hanling for the first time, I suggest you can consider this route: Southern Song Stone Carving Park, Ma Shan Wetland, Hanling Old Street, Hanling Art Museum
🚇Take the subway line 4 to Dongqian Lake, then take the bus 960/966-1/968 to Hanling Old Street (bus station).

| Ningbo Shipu One-Day Tour.🌿 After staying one night at the Ningbo Kaiyuan Mingting Hotel, we embarked on the exciting second day of our one-day tour. Today's plan was to leave the city center and head to the countryside of Ningbo.
🧩Route>>
🔹Ningbo Kaiyuan Mingting Hotel → Dongqian Lake → Hanling Old Street → Shipu Fishing Port Ancient City → Dongmen Island → Meteorological Science Park
🧩Transportation>>
The entire travel route is quite long, so it is recommended to drive by car.
🧩Attractions>>
🔹Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort, Dongqian Lake is known as Ningbo's backyard, and a visit to Ningbo wouldn't be complete without going to Dongqian Lake! Dongqian Lake is vast, and even a full day of careful exploration might not be enough. We spent two hours just getting a glimpse of the place, strolling around, and I think the lakeside scenery is even better than that of West Lake. Navigate to the Academician Center, where you'll find the popular tree, the arch-shaped gate viewing platform, and you can also overlook Limin Village. With every step, the scenery changes, making it a great spot for photos.
🔹Hanling Old Street, known as the 'Number One Ancient Street in Eastern Zhejiang', is also part of the Dongqian Lake scenic area. Located on the southern shore of Dongqian Lake, surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the lake on one, the natural scenery is stunningly beautiful. Hanling Village is a well-preserved typical ancient village of Eastern Zhejiang, with clear streams like ribbons encircling the entire village, making it well worth a visit!
🔹Shipu Fishing Port Ancient City, built along the mountains and facing the sea, is known as 'the city on the port, the mountain in the city'. It connects to the fishing port on one end and is hidden deep in the mountain valleys on the other. The city walls rise and fall with the mountain terrain, and the city gates are naturally formed. The commanding view of the port from its high position is a major feature of the majestic Shipu Ancient City. The old houses are built in tiers, and the streets and alleys wind upwards. The entrance fee is 60 yuan, but there are several narrow alleys that you can enter without a ticket.
🔹Dongmen Island, no need to take a boat, you can drive over the Tongwamen Bridge from Shipu directly to Dongmen Island. The island is full of historical sites, where you can enjoy the sea view, eat seafood, watch the sunset, and see plenty of fishing boats in one go.
🔹Dongmen Island Meteorological Science Park, shortly after driving over the Tongwamen Bridge, there is a fork in the road that leads up the mountain. The viewing platform in the meteorological park on the mountain top offers a panoramic view of the entire Xiangshan, making it a spot worth checking in.
🧩By the time we rushed back to Ningbo Kaiyuan Mingting Hotel, it was already 7:30 in the evening. We then walked to the nearby Amao Restaurant for dinner, truly loving their seafood which is fresh, delicious, and affordable👍🏻
🧩Back at the hotel, we had a good night's sleep to recharge our energy, as tomorrow's itinerary is already waving at us!

Hanling Old Street
Hanling Old Street is located in Hanling Village, Dongqianhu Town, Yinzhou District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, within the Dongqian Lake Scenic Area, about 20 kilometers from the downtown area of Ningbo. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the lake on one side, with the landscape of mountains and water interdependent.
Hanling Village is a well-preserved typical ancient village of the water towns in eastern Zhejiang. The village is encircled by a clear stream like a ribbon, with beautiful picturesque mountains on either side. The vast and misty scenery of Nanhu Lake, the ancient and time-worn century-old street, the winding alleys and lanes, the verdant farmland at the edge of the village, and the numerous traditional residential buildings with their beams, corridors, curves, lintels, courtyards, stone paths, ancient bridges, and wells all reflect the erosion of the years and the traces left by history, presenting an ancient and solemn weightiness. It makes one feel as if time has flowed backward, intoxicated by the charming scenery of the ancient water town.

United in Ambition - May Day Journey Through the Timeless Charm of Hanling Old Street
The first rays of dawn pierce through the mist, gently caressing the bluestone slabs of Hanling Old Street. This is a place steeped in history, where every stone and every wall seems to tell an ancient tale. As I step onto this old street, my heart fills with boundless reverie for the bygone years.
The street is narrow, flanked by a continuous line of quaint shops and residences, their wooden facades glowing warmly in the sunlight. There are few pedestrians, and the occasional bird song seems to relish the tranquility. I wander here, each step a stride through the river of history, feeling the weight of the years.
Entering a teahouse that appears to have weathered many years, the wooden door creaks a welcome. Inside, the furnishings are simple, with bamboo tables and chairs scattered about, and a watercolor painting of Hanling Old Street hangs on the wall, its delicate strokes exuding a faint scent of ink.
The teahouse owner is an elderly man with white hair, his face etched with the marks of time, yet his eyes remain bright. I order a pot of Pu'er tea, and he begins to skillfully handle the teaware. As steam rises, the fragrance of tea fills the air. I sit quietly, watching the tea leaves unfold in the water, listening to the old man recount tales of the old street.
He says that this street was once a bustling hub for merchants, and Hanling was at its peak of prosperity. Though that prosperity has faded, these old buildings still retain their original charm. Listening to him, I can almost see the long-gowned merchants bargaining here, exchanging goods from all directions.
Leaving the teahouse, I continue to stroll along the old street. At the end of the street stands an ancient temple, shrouded in incense, where the faithful bow and pray with devotion. I follow the crowd and bow my head three times, silently making a wish. In this era of rapid technological advancement, such faith seems all the more precious.
Afternoon sunlight filters through the leaves, casting mottled patterns on the stone slabs of the old street. I pause in front of an antique shop, filled with a variety of antiques, each seemingly carrying its own untold story. The shop owner, a middle-aged man, gently caresses each item, his eyes revealing a deep affection for these objects.
I purchase an ancient bronze coin, which the shop owner wraps carefully in soft cloth, reminding me to preserve it well as he hands it over. Holding the coin from the past, I feel its substantial weight, as if also feeling the weight of history.
As the sun sets, I find a small restaurant and order several local specialties. The proprietress is an excellent cook, with each dish being both visually appealing and delicious. Tasting these dishes, I wonder if people in ancient times also enjoyed simple and pure happiness in such small eateries.
Night falls, and the red lanterns on the old street are gradually lit, their warm glow illuminating the entire street. I walk slowly under the lights, the melodious sound of a guzheng seeming to echo in my ears, music from a corner adding to the charm of the old street.
As I leave the old street and look back, the ancient buildings appear even more mysterious in the night. This day's experience has been like a dream, allowing me to traverse time and space, experiencing a different slice of life.

Hanling Village by the Dongqian Lake
Hanling Village is a well-preserved typical ancient village of the eastern Zhejiang water towns by the Dongqian Lake. Streams wind around the village, with green hills in sight on both sides; the village has water streets like ribbons, with bridges seen everywhere... It is said that during the Northern Song Dynasty, Hanling Village had already formed a regular market on days ending in five or zero. When the Southern Song Dynasty's Prime Minister Shi Hao (born in 1140 AD) passed through Hanling on his way to his ancestral home in Xiashui Village, he left a sentence in his book 'Touring the Mountains by the East Lake' that reads, 'In the midst of it, there is a village called Hanling, where the sounds of fishing songs and woodcutter's axes intermingle,' indicating that the Hanling market was already somewhat famous at that time. Over the following centuries, Hanling was an important transportation hub and water-land transfer center connecting Ningbo's urban area to Xiangshan Port.

The old street in Jiangnan, surrounded by mountains and facing the lake, is a quaint town
Hanling Old Street is located in Hanling Village, Dongqianhu Town, Yinzhou District, Ningbo City. The old street is part of the Dongqian Lake Scenic Area, about 20 kilometers from downtown Ningbo, surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the lake on one side, with the landscape in harmony.
Upon entering the old street, you see the archway at the main entrance facing Dongqian Lake, where the water is clear and bright, and tourists come in droves.
Such old streets may not be rare along the river, but it is uncommon to see mountains within the old streets.
The old street has also been renovated, with no admission fee, and the parking fee is not expensive. We parked for 2 and a half hours and were charged 5 yuan. b
