    Autumn in Nikko Toshogu 🍂🍁

    Nikko Toshogu Shrine - The most renowned shrine of “the Shrines and Temples of Nikko”-a UNESCO world heritage site where Ieyasu Tokugawa, the great Shogun who started the Edo Period, is enshrined. Most of the shrine complex you see today was rebuilt in 17th century. The shrine contains 55 buildings including 8 national treasures and 34 listed buildings. The highlights are many colorful buildings which are richly decorated with gorgeous carvings. Do not miss the symbol of peace “Sleeping Cat”, and the “Three Monkeys” with the “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil” poses! It was already closed when we got there so we didn't see what's inside. We went in November, most of the leaves fell. Best time to experience autumn in Nikko is prolly October. I didn't see many Japanese people inside Toshogu Shrine. The Sleeping Cat🐈‍⬛ and Three Wise Monkeys🐒 places, which are often visited on school trips, are very impressive. When I went there for the first time in over 20 years, I was surprised to see that Toshogu Shrine continues quite far into the shrine, and I wondered, "Did I really walk this far?"     Over 400 years of historical heritage @ Nikko Toshogu Shrine

    Japan's Nikko Toshogu Shrine was rebuilt from 1934 to 1936. It is luxurious and splendid and has always been a very important presence for the Japanese. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 due to its special architecture, historic religion, and unique Japanese beliefs that have been passed down to this day. There is a torii gate at the entrance of Toshogu Shrine, which consists of several stones, and a clear concave line can be seen above the light surface is the stone-to-stone joint, because such a structure can mitigate the impact of earthquakes. After passing the torii gate is the five-story pagoda on the left hand side. The towering five-story pagoda building has a very high presence and is a hotspot for photography. The most famous of the buildings in Toshogu is Yangmingmon, the contrast of gold and white colors makes people feel very luxurious.     "Kanman ga-fuchi Abyss

    🪆「Kanman ga-fuchi Abyss (憾満ヶ淵)」This is not far from the World Heritage Site, but you can get there by private car or take a leisurely walk from the World Heritage Site. 📌This is a very quiet small valley formed by the eruption of Mount Nantai 7,000 years ago. It was so quiet that when we first entered, we thought there would be no people, but we passed a large group of people who were hiking. Inside, you will find a Jizo stone statue, or this area is called "Narabi Jizo". It is a Jizo stone statue covered in green moss. 🪆The "Ginjizo statue" is believed to be the guardian and protector of the souls of children, young children, and travelers. There are about 70 statues sitting in a row facing the Daiya River. It is said that every time you count the number of stone statues, you will get a different number!! I didn't try counting this to see if it's true. ⛰Walking further along the stream above, you will find the Sanskrit character “Kanman” carved into the cliff face, written by Kobo Daishi, which is the last word of the Fudo Myo prayer.

    Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple - Guides will give you free explanations!

    I dropped by around 10:30 on a Friday, and a person wearing a guide badge was gathering people, telling them to come over and that he would explain things to them. Once a certain number of people had gathered, he carefully explained the history of Rinno-ji Temple and Nikko, the meaning of each building, and more.     I went to Nikko Toshogu Shrine. There were many magnificent buildings that had a sense of history. To be honest, when I went there on a school trip, it wasn't that interesting, but I'll admit it.     Nikko Toshogu Shrine

    Speaking of Tochigi! Speaking of school trips! We went to Nikko Toshogu Shrine! From Furumine Shrine we went directly to Nikko. It's within driving distance, so you can do a hopping tour in one day 🚗🍃 It was autumn foliage season, and the vast grounds were packed with beautifully colored autumn leaves 🍁⭐️ There are also many tourist spots within the grounds, and of course we checked out the "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" ☺️💓 There are also love fortune-telling and ropes that will make your wishes come true when you pass through them, so it's a lot of fun, and we walk a lot! lol It's probably going to be crowded during the autumn foliage season, but please wear a mask and take precautions against infection while you enjoy yourself 😊 #breathtaking views #summer trip #couple trip #historical sites #free spots #autumn #autumn leaves #Tochigi
