[2025 Trondheim Attraction] Travel Guide for Nidaros Cathedral (Updated May)

This journey was likely to be the last city developed in Northern Europe. At that time, I didn't want to travel too far, so I decided to try my luck in this city. Trondheim is not a mainstream tourist city, so the pace is very leisurely, perfect for a casual stroll. Afterward, you can return to the hotel to cook a meal or have a cup of coffee. The hotel is located on a hilltop (climbing up was exhausting), but the view is fantastic, and if you're lucky, you might even see the Norwegian Air Force's F35 fighter jets flying by. Trondheim also has some unique architecture, with notable landmarks including the Nidaros Cathedral, the Old Town Bridge, and the Bakklandet Wharf. The Nidaros Cathedral is the largest and most important Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, while the Old Town Bridge is a popular spot for taking photos. Bakklandet Wharf is known for its old wooden buildings and traditional way of life. I stayed here for four nights, and for three of those nights, I was able to see the Northern Lights. I must say, I was very lucky! However, the Northern Lights were only faint green in the distance for the first two nights, not very intense. On the last day, I received an alert that the Northern Lights would be very strong, so I specifically went to the seaside to watch them (details are in another article).

If you love small-town charm with loads of outdoor space, colourful wooden houses, breathtaking natural surroundings, an easy going vibe and lots of history then Trondheim could be well worth visiting for sure. I visited Nidaros Cathedral, Old Town Bridge, Kristiansten Fortress and Egon Restaurant which is up the tower has a fantastic view of the whole of Trondheim and the fjord.

Norway's third-largest city, Trondheim, has no reputation as the first Oslo and second Bergen, nor is it popular in the winter to see the Aurora's Tromso, usually only spend a day at most. Time to stroll around the city, but it is actually a historical city in the history of the Norwegian King. [Nidaros Cathedral, Nidaros Cathedral] It is a 15-minute walk from the train station. From the distance you can see the green spires. It was built around 1070 to 1300 and is built in Romanesque style. And the Gothic, the former Norwegian king of the 1000-year-old ancient church was here to perform the ceremony. [Gamle Bybro Trondheim] From the main church of Nidaros, you can walk to the old bridge Gamie Bybru on the edge of the Ned River in five minutes, passing through the red gallery door. Standing on the bridge and watching the ancient colorful Nordic water wooden buildings built along the Ned River, you can also sit in the cafe by the river to soak up the sun. [Kristiansten Fortess] walks over the Old Town Bridge and then walks up the hill to reach the high point of Trondheim overlooking the city, which was built in the 17th century. The interior of the fortress is only open in summer and is free to visit.
