Tokyo | Rainy days are perfect for visiting the Nezu Museum designed by Kengo Kuma
If you like Japanese gardens and Kengo Kuma's designs, then the Nezu Museum located in Minami Aoyama is a must-visit.
This private museum, created by Kaichiro Nezu, is also a symbol of Japan's old wealth. He had a personal liking for antiques, bronzes, and Buddhist statues. The museum was originally Nezu's private residence, which was later redesigned by Kengo Kuma into a museum and opened to the public.
Apart from the museum's own collection, the Japanese garden is also a highlight, featuring a Japanese tea house surrounded by greenery.
However, many of the museum's collections are Chinese Buddha heads, which are quite thought-provoking to see.
☕️Nezu Cafe:
Many people visit Nezu, and a big reason must be for this tea house! This cafe, also designed by Kengo Kuma and hidden in the Japanese garden, is enveloped in greenery and is very photogenic. The seats by the window are the most popular.
The coffee and desserts here are decent without being exceptional, and the prices are not expensive.
📸Photography tips:
If you want to capture the Nezu Museum without any disturbances, look no further
✅Best time to shoot:
Weekdays, rainy days, just before closing or right after opening.
This timing is particularly important. On the day I visited, it was a light rainy weekday in Tokyo, so there were relatively few tourists.
✅How to get a shot of the usually busy Nezu cafe without people?
The tea house actually closes at 4:30 pm, so they stop serving customers after 4 pm. I was actually the last customer that day, and even the tables were already cleaned up. That's how I managed to take pictures freely.
✅Take a shot of the bamboo grove corridor at the entrance before leaving the museum to capture an empty scene
✅A light rainy day is ideal for shooting the garden, as walking with an umbrella in the Japanese garden is very pleasant. If you get tired, you can sit down in a small pavilion and listen to the rain.
🎫Ticket: No reservation needed, just buy on-site
⏰Business hours: 10:00-17:00 (Closed on Mondays)
🌿Surroundings:
🔶Shopping:
After visiting the Nezu Museum, you can shop around Minami Aoyama. There are stores like Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo, Prada, Lelabo, etc. I also bought a limited edition flap shoulder from Issey Miyake here, which I haven't seen in China, so no worries about clashing bags. Omotesando and Roppongi are not far from here.
🔶Museums:
If you have an entire afternoon for exhibitions, you can also visit the National Art Center and the Mori Art Museum, with the Mori Art Museum being a perfect spot to end the day with a sunset or night view. (See other notes for details)
🔶Food:
After coming out of the Mori Art Museum, you can have dinner in Roppongi Hills or Omotesando, or take a stroll to the nearby Azabu Juban.

The Tranquil Beauty: A Timeless Walk in Nezu Museum
Stepping into the Nezu Museum in Tokyo feels like opening a door to a serene and ancient world. The museum's collection of Eastern art treasures is truly mesmerizing: tea ceremony utensils, ancient ceramics, and precious scrolls of calligraphy and paintings, each piece exuding the warmth of history and the depth of culture. One particularly memorable piece is a painting of bamboo in ink, with elegant strokes that convey movement within stillness, drawing one into the Zen world of the ancients.
The museum's garden is a sanctuary for the soul. Walking along the winding paths, with the sound of flowing water and moss-covered grounds, every step reveals a new scene. The swaying bamboo and stone lanterns scattered throughout create a profound Japanese ambiance. Taking a moment to rest in a small tea pavilion, surrounded by the lush greenery of the garden, time seems to stand still.
Nezu Museum is not just a hall of art but a tranquil oasis in the bustling city. Every corner is imbued with delicacy and poetry, inspiring reverence and allowing one to immerse in the fusion of history and nature.

Nezu Museum.
Nezu Museum is a private museum converted from the Aoyama residence of Kaichiro Nezu by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It is a private art museum with Buddhist art and tea utensils as the theme.
Nezu stole a lot of bronzes, porcelain, and Buddha statues from China, all of which are collected here to form several separate small exhibition rooms. The treasure of the museum is the swallow flower screen, which is very small, and the swallow flower pattern appears on the 5,000 yen banknote.
Kuma is an advocate of the design concept of "weak architecture", using a large amount of natural building materials such as wood, bamboo, and stone to create oriental Zen. His work in Beijing is the Commune·Bamboo House at the foot of the Great Wall.

Nezu Museum
This museum is not very busy and is very simple. I think the design is very Japanese. Minimalist but neat and beautiful. Inside there is a Japanese-style garden complete with bridges, tori, zen garden and so on. There are also places to eat here which are not expensive. Very worth a visit. A small jewel box in the museum. Very suitable for those of you who are tired of shopping near Omotesando Hill. The garden is beautiful. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and serene. The gift shop is epic. The art isn't the best (compared to much larger and busier museums), but it's well curated.

Tokyo Wanderings | In the midst of the bustling city lies a poetic courtyard hidden from view
The Nezu Museum, located in the Omotesando area, is renowned and a must-visit spot for countless art-loving visitors to Tokyo.
The museum is not large, and the number of exhibits is limited; photography is not allowed inside the main building.
Yet, outside the main building, there lies a unique garden.
From the delicate moss-covered ground to the meticulously pruned branches, every element is carefully polished, showcasing the Japanese profound pursuit of natural beauty.

Nezu Museum in Tokyo
This private museum is located in Minami Aoyama, Minato Ward. The current location is the third generation, and it opened on October 7, 2009. The area is about 15,000 square meters, not very large. It has three floors including the basement. The exhibits are mainly the personal collection of the Japanese tycoon Nezu Kaichiro, which includes calligraphy, paintings, statues, and ancient vessels. There are also 7 national treasures: paintings and scriptures. Personally, I prefer the scenery of the garden outside the museum. Nearby Omotesando, there is a Prada store with a very distinctive building.

Tranquil Amidst Verdant Shadows — The Nezu Museum.
The Nezu Museum is so beautiful that it leaves one speechless.
Surrounded by greenery,
Here,
I was pleasantly surprised to find a Japanese Zen garden seemingly hidden within the city.
Both indoors and outdoors,
are embraced by the greenery.
The indoor collection may not be large,
but it houses treasures from ancient times,
mostly Chinese artifacts,
bronzes and Buddha statues.
They quietly narrate the whispers of history here.
Standing beside these exquisite artifacts,
I can't help but reflect,
Hoping that this ancient beauty
Can one day return to its homeland.
Outside is a scene of absolute beauty.
The NEZU Café is tucked away in a small grove,
with a strong visual impact.
The embrace of greenery
provides immense comfort.
Despite the crowd and the need to queue,
waiting for a cup of coffee here is leisurely worth it.
The garden is dotted with countless teahouses,
peeking through the lush trees,
and there is also a shrine.
Taking photos here,
each one is as perfect as a painting.
In the heart of Tokyo,
I found such a tranquil green oasis.
The Nezu Museum
is not just a display of art,
it is also a sanctuary for the soul.

A step, a view, a small yet beautiful art museum
The Nezu Museum houses many Buddhist and antique artifacts, each exquisitely crafted. However, I believe the beauty of the Nezu Museum lies not in the artifacts it holds, but in its outdoor garden.
Descending the stairs on the right, the indoor staircase corresponds with the outdoor terrain, creating a sense of tranquility akin to the underwater pathway of the Church of Water, bringing peace to the soul.
If you're outdoors during the maple leaf season, it's delightful to sit in the courtyard cafe, watching the maple trees outside, and order a pastry.
Holding an umbrella, listening to the rain, watching the maple leaves, enjoying autumn.

Tokyo Attractions | Nezu Museum.
The Nezu Museum in autumn still boasts a lush verdure 🍃
More than the Buddhist artifacts currently on exhibit,
the Japanese-style garden outside the museum captivates me more.
Also, you must check out the cafe inside the museum, and try their desserts and coffee.
I even saw Kabuki actors training in a small cottage in the garden! (Reminds me of the Kabuki actor's chef!!)
It's only a few minutes' walk from the museum to Omotesando.
Plan a day to stroll through the museum > shop > eat at Gariguette/Amam dacotan and get the itinerary 🍽

Japanese Niche Travel | Nezu Museum, an art museum with a Japanese garden worth visiting
I was really surprised by the Nezu Museum. The entire museum is divided into indoor and outdoor areas, both surrounded by greenery, with a Japanese garden style. In Tokyo, you can also feel the strong ancient atmosphere and Zen spirit🌲
There are not many cultural relics indoors, more than half of which are Chinese relics, including many Buddha statues and bronzes. I will not comment on this here~ Although they may not have been very well protected, they are also integrated into the background, allowing for close observation of the details. I can't help but marvel at how exquisite the cultural heritage of our motherland is, and I hope they can return home soon~
The outdoor area is really stunning! There is a NEZU cafe that is truly amazing, surrounded by a small forest, with a strong visual impact, and the greenery is really comforting (there are quite a few visitors, so queuing is necessary).
The garden has many teahouses, which are faintly visible among the trees, and there is also a shrine, which is very photogenic.

Tokyo's Premier Courtyard-Style Art Museum | Nezu Museum
Hello, everyone, I am Jack's travel stories, and today I'm here to share with you about Tokyo's Nezu Museum.
🌟 The Nezu Museum is located near Minami Aoyama and is definitely a must-see after coming to Tokyo. The museum is situated in the former residence of the Nezu family's Nezu Aoyama. It was rebuilt in 1954, renovated in 1964, and underwent another major renovation in the second year of Heisei. In addition to the art museum building, the old residence also includes the attached Nezu Aoyama Garden.
🌟 The garden is meticulously crafted, with this Japanese-style garden designed with great care, focusing on the harmony between nature and man-made features. The garden has mountains and water, leisure pavilions, as well as torii gates and shrines, integrating all the elements seen in traditional Japanese gardens.
🌟 The museum mainly collects tea ceremony utensils and Buddhist art works, and of course, there are also some Chinese relics such as ancient Chinese bronzes, porcelain, etc. (Some works are not allowed to be photographed, so you can only look quietly).
☕️ There is also a special place outside the museum for coffee and afternoon tea, where you can order a piece of cake or coffee and drinks at the cafe after viewing the exhibition, which is particularly comfortable. The entire cafe is surrounded by glass walls, enveloped in greenery, making it especially photogenic.

[Don't smash the Tokyo net red shop | expensive and unpalatable, don't step on the pit]
This is the feeling after personal experience in Tokyo, I hope you don't step on the pit together. This seems to be a red shop. It seems that the rankings on some platform websites are not bad. They all say that this is a place to eat egg rolls. The rich milk is a good choice for hand-to-hand, and when people go to line up. So I went to visit. When
arrived, it was not necessary to line up, so I waited for half an hour opposite the checkout counter. To be honest, the restaurant's decoration style is very nice, you can choose to dine inside or outside the house, outside the cherry tree, it is very romantic; the service staff's service attitude is also very good, except that the meal speed is a bit slow because of the full staff Really impeccable.
may be expected to be too high, so I was particularly disappointed when I tasted food. I ordered 2 servings, one for the pancake and the other for the dessert. The pizza doesn't look good, it's disappointing when it's eaten. It's a thin piece of skin, it's not a crunchy taste, and there aren't many cheese hams. It's not as good as the Shandong grain in the downstairs! But just like this one will cost 1400+ yen!
and the main strawberry dessert, the value is also very high like a restaurant, but the light egg omelet is super sweet. If it is sweet and sour with strawberry jam and the sweetness of ice cream, it is still OK. The pizza is so delicious! But if there is no water, I can't finish it.
light these two things spent 172 yuan, can be said to be expensive and unpalatable. Friendly reminder of a small partner with a Chinese stomach, this restaurant may not be suitable for Chinese tastes. Or maybe I didn't have the right product, at least the two foods of the picture are not so good, it is better not to order.
ps: This shop is in the middle of Omotesando and Genjin Art Museum. Don't step on the thunder.
CandyTang.
In the fashionable place of Tokyo, Omotesando hides a quiet place where you can wash away the dust of the world. The Genjin Art Museum is one of the old art galleries in Tokyo. The place where it was originally belonged to the Genjin family. This is most likely the most beautiful private art museum in Japan designed by Kengo Kuma. The main theme of the design is "from the hustle and bustle of the heart to the beautiful world of silence." The entrance to the building is very characteristic. I found that Japanese architects are extremely eager to use perspectives to see if this bamboo wall is similar to the previous Jiangzhipu visitor corridor.
The entire building was awarded the 2010 Daily Art Award. If the Adachi Museum of Art is the most beautiful courtyard, it can be called an art museum that realizes the harmony between tradition and modernity.
Under the construction of Kengo Kuma, the Genjin Art Museum is perfectly integrated with the courtyard behind it, which is a good way to reduce the separation of buildings and nature. The building is like disappearing, and people feel that they are immersed in nature. In the view of Kengo Kuma, the core value of art museum or museum design should be based on the geographical location. The building should serve its functions and maximize its function, which is the most important.
The main building of the museum accounts for one-fifth of the entire area, and the other four-fifths is a large courtyard and a tea room hidden between them. It is an oasis in the southern youth area, immersed in the joy of nature, feeling the change of seasons and phenology.
