⛪ In Thailand, there are many beautiful Christian churches. One of them is Amphawa Christian Church in Samut Songkhram Province. If you have the chance to visit Amphawa Floating Market, don't forget to check in and see the beauty of this church.
⛪ Amphawa Christian Church or Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral is a cathedral of Ratchaburi Diocese (a former area division). It is beautifully outstanding with a white building with blue stripes. Gothic art architecture is located not far from the Mae Klong River. It was built in 1890 (in 1890, during the reign of King Rama V) by Father Paul Salmon, a French missionary, to honor the birth of the Virgin Mary. It is considered a sacred place of worship for Roman Catholics.
⛪ Inside the church, beautiful stained glass from France is decorated. It is a very prominent feature. The glass in the arches of the doors and windows are combined in frames, telling the story of the Virgin Mary according to the Bible. Including images of male and female saints, there are statues, pulpits, baptismal fonts, candlesticks of various types, and carvings decorating the doors, describing some historical stories from the Christian Bible. The cathedral doors are decorated with Thai art adapted from lacquerware from Chiang Mai.
⛪ Before the Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral became as beautiful as it is today, it had to overcome many obstacles, such as the soft mud soil along the Mae Klong River, which caused the church walls to collapse, or a lack of funds, as well as the distance from the capital, which made transporting construction materials difficult. However, when it was completed, it became an important place for Catholics in Samut Songkhram Province, as well as a famous religious tourism landmark.
⛪ Nativity of Our Lady Cathedral is located in Bang Nok Khwaek Subdistrict, Bang Khonthi District, Samut Songkhram Province, approximately 8 kilometers from Amphawa Floating Market.
