#wecreate The Church of Santa Engrácia is a 17th-century monument in Lisbon, Portugal. Originally a church it was converted into the National Pantheon, in which important Portuguese personalities are buried. The building itself has an impressive white façade, in many respects it looks a bit like the Sacre Coeur cathedral in Paris’ Montmartre. Our suggestion is once you take your tickets head upstairs straight to the terrace. The corridor can be a bit narrow but with a bit of luck no one will be coming downstairs. This is a good opportunity to see the Alfama neighbourhood from above and also the Marina area. #GothicArchitecture #PortugueseLegends

#celebratewithtrip The National Pantheon is located in Campo de Santa Clara, 1100-471 Lisboa, and is open from Tuesday to Sunday 1000-1800. It is around 400 meters 7 minutes walk from Santa Apolonia metro station, or 450 meters 6 minutes walk from Cc.S.Vicente tram stop ( tram 28 ). This grand Baroque building was a Church of Santa Engracia, but it became the National Pantheon in 1916, which houses the tombs of the country's most distinguished figures. The building is on the plan of a Geek cross, and the interior is covered in beautiful, multicolored slabs of polished marble and it is crowned with a dome. The main reason for the visit, however is the large terrace by the dome, which offers a view over Alfama and the river. Try visiting in Saturday or Tuesday morning, when the city's flea market takes place in the shadow of the monument.

The National Pantheon, formerly the Roman Catholic Church of Santa Engrácia⛪️, was built in the 17th century. The architecture is of typical Baroque style and is magnificent. It was previously used as a church, but was later converted to be the burial place of important Portuguese figures, including the Portuguese president and the famous navigator and explorer Vasco da Gama! Although this attraction is not very famous, it has high cultural value and is worth a visit! Entry is free with the Lisboa Card! #June2024

The National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional), originally the Catholic Church of Santa Engrácia (Igreja de Santa Engrácia), is a Baroque building. Originally, it was dedicated to a martyr from Braga, Santa Engrácia. The church was commissioned by Princess Maria, daughter of King Manuel I, in 1568, but the old church collapsed in 1681, and the current church was built on the same site. However, construction began in 1682 and was not completed until the 20th century, as King João V lost interest in building the church and focused resources on constructing the Mafra Palace instead. As a result, in Portugal, Obras de Santa Engrácia (the Works of Santa Engrácia) has become synonymous with unfinished projects. Regarding Santa Engrácia, it is said that during her journey from Braga to Zaragoza, she learned of the persecution of local Christians by the governor and attempted to dissuade him. Later, when people discovered she was a Christian, she was whipped and imprisoned, eventually dying as a result. Many others were martyred at the same time, and these individuals are known as the Martyrs of Zaragoza. In 1966, during the Salazar regime, the Church of Santa Engrácia was converted into the National Pantheon of Heroes. In addition to housing the tombs of important Portuguese figures, there are also many monuments, including those of Camões, Vasco da Gama, Pedro Álvares Cabral, the first European to reach Brazil, Afonso de Albuquerque, who established the Portuguese colony in India, known as the 'Duke of Goa', and Prince Henry the Navigator, who initiated the Age of Great Discoveries in Europe. #thingstodo National pantheon is one of the best places in Lisbon that you have to visit ! Apart from the observation point and terrace outside of the building, the architecture and design of inside is incredibly and spectacular. Recent trip to National Pantheon, I have been inside to look at some beautiful designs and the shapes of the 17th century church. They look old but unique ! After that, the view of the terrace of the building is amazing and stunning. You can see the whole view of the sea side of Lisbon! #Lisbon
