I took advantage of the nationwide travel support and stayed at Shionoyu Onsen Rengetsu❣️ A little less than 40 minutes by free shuttle bus from Nasu-Shiobara Station on the Shinkansen line, and checked in to this inn in the mountains on a special trolley! The steep descent was like an attraction and really got me excited about my trip♪ The hotel is new, so the facilities and specifications are modern. You have to carry your luggage yourself, and there is no stiff greeting from the landlady (this is a good thing, including during meals), and the young staff only give the bare minimum of guidance, without excessive service. Perhaps because check-in is in two shifts, the building and baths were not too crowded considering the number of rooms, so I was able to use them at my own pace. The breakfast and lobby were both nicely empty, probably due to the shifting hours, so I was able to spend my time there without any stress. In the large public bath, there are various types of hot springs, such as a milk bath and a medicinal herb bath, and you can also enjoy a sauna. The facilities were very satisfying. I visited in October, but there seemed to be a major outbreak of stink bugs, so I gave up on using the open-air bath in my room... The private bath, the semi-open-air bath, and the open-air bath in the large public bath were also a bit... so if you are using the bath attached to your room, you may want to be careful.
