A hidden dreamland in southwestern Zhejiang - Nanjianshan
2025 Nanjianshan Travel Guide|A secluded trip between cliff lights and shadows and a sea of clouds
Attraction Introduction
Nanjianshan is located in Suichang County, Lishui, Zhejiang Province, with an altitude of 1,626 meters. It is famous for its dangerous peaks, terraces, bamboo forests, and ancient villages. The newly opened high-altitude glass viewing platform (free) in 2025 offers a 360° view of the thousand-meter cliff and sea of clouds. The core area of the attraction is about 12 square kilometers, and the recommended visit time is 1-1.5 days.
Tickets and Transportation
Tickets: CNY 70; seniors over 60 years old can enjoy a discount with a valid ID, and students can enjoy a half-price discount with a student ID. You need to make a real-name reservation in advance on the WeChat official account "Nanjianshan Tourism Service", and the daily limit is 3,000 people.
Transportation: Take the high-speed train to Lishui Station, and transfer to the direct bus to the attraction (departing at 8:30/13:00 every day, CNY 45 for a one-way trip). For self-driving, navigate to "Nanjianshan Scenic Area South Gate Parking Lot", the toll is about CNY 120 (from Hangzhou), and the parking fee is CNY 20/day.
Must-see Attractions and Routes
Morning|Light Hiking Route (3 hours)
Sky Ladder Plank Road: After entering from the south gate, turn right, and walk 1.2 kilometers on the flat and easy-to-walk stone road. There are 7 viewing platforms along the way, and the 2nd platform is the best place to take photos of the thousand-meter terraces (it is recommended to arrive before 9:30 to avoid backlighting).
A Thread of Sky: After passing the plank road, you need to climb 168 iron ladders with a slope of 40°. It is recommended that elderly travelers take the fork road to bypass the stone road.
Cloud Restaurant: The only supply point on the mountain, with set meals starting from CNY 38 (bamboo tube rice and wild vegetable soup are recommended). You can bring your own food and dine at the campsite.
Afternoon|In-depth Experience (2.5 hours)
Glass Viewing Platform: After 14:00, the sea of clouds dissipates, which is suitable for shooting the details of the cliff structure. Travelers with acrophobia can choose the reinforced fence area on the right.
Nine-level Waterfall Group: Go down along the wooden plank road, and there is a water platform at the 3rd waterfall. The water temperature in summer is about 18°C, and you can experience it barefoot (prepare non-slip socks).
Half-mountain Ancient Village: On the way back, pass by Wangcunkou Town, which retains the rammed earth dwellings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. You can buy handmade dried bamboo shoots (CNY 25/bag) and black pottery tea sets.
Avoid Pitfalls
Transportation Trap: The signal in the mountainous area is weak, do not trust the "free guide" personnel on the roadside, and look for the regular guides in dark green uniforms.
Weather Warning: It is rainy and foggy from March to May, so be sure to bring waterproof shoe covers (CNY 15/pair in the attraction, it is recommended to bring your own); the real-time weather is released on the official account of the attraction at 7:00 every day.
Accommodation Preference: The off-season room rate of "Yunju Inn" on the top of the mountain starts from CNY 380, and you need to book 30 days in advance; for same-day round trips, it is recommended to stay at "Xishanpan" B&B in Suichang County (22 kilometers away from the attraction, with free pick-up and drop-off).
Off-peak Tips
Best Photography Time: The probability of a sea of clouds appearing in the rainy season (June to July) is 70%, and it is recommended to arrive at the entrance before 7:00 on weekdays.
Avoid Crowds: Group tours enter the attraction from 10:00 to 12:00. Reverse tours (take the shuttle bus to the glass platform first and then hike down the mountain) can save 30% of the time.
This secret place has no cable cars and retains the original mountain and wild atmosphere. Jackets and trekking poles are not necessary, but you must wear non-slip sports shoes. Check the health code before departure (green code and no risk area record within 14 days are required), and free first aid kits and maps are provided at the entrance of the attraction. When immersing yourself in the geological wonders, do not cross the red warning zone - safety is the key to this dialogue with volcanic rocks from hundreds of millions of years ago.
