The South Peak is 2,160.8 meters above sea level and is the highest peak of Huashan Mountain. The South Peak has one peak and two summits. The East Summit is Songhui Peak, which is named after the many pine and cypress trees. The West Summit is Luoyan Peak, which is the top of the South Peak. It is said that because the mountain is too high, wild geese cannot fly over here and must rest here, so it is named this. Climbing the South Peak, you can see all the mountains at your feet, overlooking the Loess Plateau, Weihe Plain, the Yellow River, Jing River, and Weihe River. It makes people feel full of pride and makes people truly appreciate the majestic and broad momentum of Huashan Mountain and enjoy the magical fun of being in heaven and walking on clouds. There is Laojun Cave on the top of the South Peak. It is said that Laozi, the ancestor of Taoism, lived in seclusion here. There are two big characters "Zhenyuan" on the rocks at the top of the South Peak. In addition, there are Laozi Peak, Alchemy Furnace, and Bagua Pool on the South Peak. These attractions are all related to the legend of Laozi. To the north of Laojun Cave is Taishang Spring, which flows eastwards into the stream and is now called "Yangtian Pond". The spring water is green all year round. There is a stone archway called "Nantianmen" under the cliff to the east. On the south peak is Jintian Palace built in the Ming Dynasty, also known as Baidi Temple, which enshrines Shaohao, the god of Huashan.
