🗺️ [What a Difference a Day Makes in Tirana]
#familytravel in #balkantrip
✈️ Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza (TIA), also known as Rinas Airport, is Albania's primary international gateway.
☀️ We arrived early, and staying in the city centre is highly recommended for convenience and easy access to main attractions. Most of the popular tourist attractions are located within walking distance.
😍 Tirana is surprisingly a beautiful city, full of vibrant energy and colorful charm. The streets are lined with lively cafes, striking murals, and a mix of architectural styles that reflect its complex history.
Green spaces like the Grand Park and the artificial lake offer peaceful escapes from the urban bustle, making Tirana not just interesting, but genuinely pleasant to explore.
🥘 I had the chance to sample the local cuisine, which features a mix of Albanian, Greek, Italian, English, and Turkish influences. However, during my walk, I noticed that Asian food options were quite limited.
📍We were able to visit several 🆓 notable landmarks and sights in a single day, even with a 3.5-year-old toddler in tow.

Namazgah Mosque: Discover Tirana’s Spiritual Heart and Architectural Wonder
Namazgah Mosque, is the largest mosque in Albania and one of the largest in the Balkans. Located near Skanderbeg Square in the heart of the capital, it was inaugurated in 2023. The mosque features traditional Ottoman architecture and includes a large central dome, four minarets, and space for over 4,500 worshippers. Funded largely by the Turkish government through Turkey’s Diyanet Foundation, the mosque also houses a library, conference hall, and educational facilities, serving as a major religious, cultural, and community center for Tirana’s Muslim population.

Tirana City Break 🇦🇱
#cityplaybook
One of Europe’s lesser known cities, Tirana might not have made it onto your travel radar just yet but I think that it’s fair to say that the Albanian capital is a trendy and up-and-coming destination for a European city break.
The city was a wonderful collision of rugged history and modern funkiness. Plus, I found the city to be a cheap place for a short break.
Here’s my take on the best things to do in Tirana, Albania:
1. Skanderbeg Square
Named after the Albanian national hero, George Kastrioti Skanderbeg and is a good place to start your Tirana city break sightseeing.
2. Namazgah Mosque 🕌, one of the largest in the Balkans.
3. Tirana Castle 🏰, transformed into a pedestrianised space full of small shops, restaurants and bars. It’s a quirky and charming area that makes for a lovely place to hit pause.
4. Tirana Clock Tower🗼, offering panoramic views across Tirana.
5. Et’hem Bey Mosque 🕌
6. The New Bazaar (Pazari i Ri) 🎁
7. Pyramid of Tirana 🔺

Modern Ottoman architecture Manza Mosque 🇦🇱
#JanuaryTravelSupportEvent #FebruaryTravelSupportEvent #Albania
Tirana's newly completed Namazgah Mosque is the largest Islamic holy site in the Balkans and is a modern Ottoman-style building that opened in October 2024. The 30-meter-tall central dome and four 50-meter-tall minarets dominate the city skyline, and the interior features a magnificent prayer hall that can accommodate 8,000 people.
Points to visit😊
Cultural complex: Comprehensive space including underground parking, library, and exhibition hall
Night lighting: Gorgeous night view of golden minaret and turquoise dome
Strategic location adjacent to Albanian Parliament building
Tips for visiting😗
Dressing: Clothing below the knees and shoulder covers are required (can be rented on site)
Time: 10am - 3pm, recommended during non-prayer hours
Interior photos: No flash allowed, but be careful not to disturb prayers
Some travelers have commented that it is "too new and lacks a sense of history"5, but it is a harmonious blend of symbolic meaning of Albania-Turkey cooperation project and ultra-modern facilities. It is also easily accessible, being a 20-minute walk from Tirana Central Station!
