First Day: On the first day in Tokyo, my goal was to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo located in Sumida Ward. This museum focuses on contemporary art and showcases many creative and thought-provoking artworks. Upon arrival, I was amazed by the museum's architectural design, which is minimalist yet futuristic, seemingly inviting me into a whole new world of art. During my visit, I was particularly drawn to a series of photographs about urban life, through which I felt the intertwined moments of Tokyo's busyness and beauty. At noon, I had lunch at the museum's café, enjoying a local bento that was simple yet delicious, allowing me to savor both art and food. Second Day: On the second day, I planned to further explore the cultural attractions around the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo. After breakfast, I returned to the museum and joined an art tour organized by the museum. The professional guide provided detailed explanations of the stories and creative concepts behind each exhibit, giving me a deeper understanding of contemporary art. After the tour, I picked up some books and souvenirs about contemporary art at the museum's bookstore as mementos of this trip. Then, I left the museum and strolled to the nearby Sumida Park, a great spot to view the Tokyo Skytree. #DomesticTravelRecord I went to [Ryuichi Sakamoto | Seeing Sound, Listening to Time], which has been held since December 21st. This is the largest solo exhibition in Japan, comprehensively introducing the large-scale installation works of Ryuichi Sakamoto, a leading Japanese musician who passed away last year. Immersive and experiential sound installation works consisting of unreleased songs and his representative works are dynamically composed and deployed in museums, indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor fog performance is only held twice an hour, so I recommend checking the time in advance! Also, some video works take more than 30 minutes to look at carefully, and I wanted to see them properly, so I stayed from 13:00 to closing time 18:00. Even so, there was not enough time at all! There was a collaboration menu for the Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition at the cafe inside the museum, but the sandwiches were sold out by lunchtime and I couldn't eat them. 😭 Some of the background music for the video works were unreleased songs, and few famous songs were played at this exhibition, but I still enjoyed it. The exhibition showcased a range of Hockney's masterpieces, and I was particularly captivated by his pieces "Looking at the Flowers," and "A Lawn Sprinkler." Each artwork was a vibrant celebration of color, light, and the beauty of everyday life. "A Lawn Sprinkler" is my favorite. It was a delightful exploration of Hockney's fascination with capturing the essence of water. The playful depiction of droplets dancing in mid-air and the refreshing green backdrop evoked a sense of tranquility and rejuvenation.
